    Is this true?

I had a friend that was into guitar. He told me that one time this was in a guitar magazine. Either an interview or an article? I have been wanting to know if this is true or not?

My friend said that Edward Van Halen's idol was Eric Clapton and Ed sent Eric Clapton a blues musical melody , compositon etc etc. I am not a musican.

Eric sent it back to Edward with like red X's like he was grading it and said it was horrible. My friend also said it bummed Edward out because his idol was Eric Clapton and to send it back like that was embarrassing. Any truth to this? And if it is can you tell me what magazine and what year it was.

    Thanks

I don't know why but the red x's sounds familiar.

What I remember was an interview with Clapton and Clapton was told that Ed was a huge fan. Clapton said something along the lines of "I don't care much for his music".

Never heard that one...I do know that Ed met Eric backstage at some benefit gig in the early 80's and Ed was really excited to meet him. When he finally met him Ed said that Eric just shook his hand and basically blew him off like he was some little terd. I remember Ed saying that he was bummed out and never felt the same obout Eric after they met.

Man, I'm glad Ed was nice to me when I met him. I'd've been bummed out if my guitar hero treated me like shit too.

Thanks guys for the info. I hope someone can verify it for me.

I am interested in this. The reason is that so so many people say that Edward is a God in Guitar and I guess in the music world Eric is considered a God as a musician.

But I do not know I am not a musican.

I know the first time they met each other Ed was shitfaced and it didn't go over too well with Clapton. I think that was in '85? Is that what you were wondering? However, I also know since then they've met again and Clapton has said nice things about him as well.

I thought I read that Clapton said that all the finger taping was too much like finger gymnastics and that he didn't enjoy it.

Isn't that what he's been doing for the last 8 years. Or arguably 19?

He likes young girls that look like gymnists though. He's probably just bitter in retrospect about great american guitarists. Duane Allman kicked his ass all over the "Leyla" record. I never got the clapton thing.

Nope, Van Halen has always been Eddie, Alex, and Mike....plus a singer. Doesn't matter who's singing, VH is VH. It was Eddie's band from day one and whatever he says is gospel and whatever he does is divine. Keep in mind that Eddie won't reunite with David Lee Roth because the fans don't want that, they don't want a nostalgia act. Sammy Hagar is with the times and that is why Eddie chose him. The 2004 tour is solely for the love of music, too.

I heard Clapton bowed down and kissed Eddies feet when they met and after shaking Eddies hand vowed to never wash it again in hopes that some of the VH magic would rub off on him. But that is just hear say.

Yeah man me either their was a lot better and cooler players from his era.
"It's just not an option for me to go and watch some other band — who are only performing because they have some new record coming out — do our music," Roth said. "I have nothing against Velvet Revolver — I'm not familiar with their music — but that was my 3 minutes and 22 seconds up there."
