#1 I wont, because Im not, a Van Hagar fan. My statement has nothing to show that I am.
#2 I work most nights and Lou works days. The only night we're both available is Sat. And he's ragging. :D
#3 So far there is no show to enjoy. If your talking about Van Hagar, I will enjoy it as much as I enjoy crippling your very thoughts into tiny tiny specs of "who was that's?" and "what just happened's?".
My original statement holds truth. Some Mod's here (not naming names...
) over step their own boundries when it comes to what we can say in the forums. I mean really. The question asked was simple. and silly. The answers were also meant to be silly and simple.

For me, VH as I like it, was: DLR+MA+EVH+AVH, and it tasted great!
I don't buy Van Hagar bouillabaisse, cause it's too mellow and not enough digest for me, but if you like it, have it.

I've done all I can do to come to this conclusion about Dave. I've seen the DVD bootlegs including Memphis '81, Largo '82, and Montreal '84. Pretty clear to me that Dave was in charge by watching those.
I'm still trying to figure out why you're here. Now what if we went over to the Links and, if we didn't get banned, started posting about how Van Hagar sucks? What would you think of that? I know what you'd do you hypocrite, you'd whine and bitch about it. Whereas you know that a Hagar fan coming here has immunity from Brett's Nazism.
BTW what I meant by the comment that some Roth fans think that VH was a trio plus a singer are the people who like Roth and Hagar equally and will see either incarnation of the band. Perhaps that doesn't qualify as a Roth fan then.Comment

I heard that Patty Smyth was going to be their new singer after Dave left & actually I think that would have been cool. Regardless, they should have changed the name no matter who took over. Van Halen was and always will be as much Dave as anyone. Calling it Van Halen with Sammy was a travesty.
It would be like calling Audioslave, Rage Against The Machine. Just not the same.Comment

The question is probably legitimate... but finding a good answer is the ball buster!!
From a primary perspective... the answer NO ONE could replace David Lee Roth as the lead singer of Van Halen... and have the band remain "Van Halen" is the prevailing logical response.
On the other hand... truth be told, David did leave the band... which did leave Edward, Alex and Michael with the choice of putting another singer in place and continuing as a band. I'm not going to get into the symantics of continuing under the same name, because that's not the question that was raised... and I don't give a shit what the band calls themselves anyway.
In 85 from what I recall of potential big-name singers that could have potentially been given a shot at fronting VH... only 3 come to mind. Phil Collins, Sting, and Sammy. Given their huge status and different musical directions I don't think Sting nor Collins would have even been given a passing thought. Huey Lewis if I recall was considered at the time or at least discussed among my musical circles... frankly he "might" have been a viable option at least in my opinion.
So beyond that I really don't think there was many viable options on the table in 1985. At least from anyone recognizable in name. On the other hand there was a ton of up and coming people in the LA music scene that could have been brought up, but all would have been complete unknowns and no telling what if any impact would have been.
Contrary to popular opinion here... the choice VH made obviously wasn't a commercial flop since they did go on release records that sold and filled venues touring. It wasn't the same outfit as when fronted by Dave but still a viable band.
