Van Halen copycat bands of the 80's.

Yo army brothers i need some help with somethin' here. one of my best buddies fails to realize that Van Halen started what is now known as 80's rock such as stuff by Motley Crue Poison and all the other hair bands an shit. Anybody know any articles from well respected people that would prove this. Van Halen was the first "80's rock" band i just need to prove it.

Seriously i know that other bands copied Van Halen is there anything to back us up on that. I mean the guy can't get it through his head that if it wasn't for van HALEN that Motley an shit wouldn't exist.

I never lumped those bands with VH. While those bands were trend bands without broad perspective or musicianship, VH, as I see it, was a rock sound unto itself. It crossed alot of stylistic lines.

The only thing I see they got from VH was faster guitar solos and newer techniques. You could argue about DLR's style and flamboyance. Steven Tyler had that before DLR was known. I see more of Tyler in most of those bands at that time.

Alot of that glam metal at that time had a spookier image while simultaneously looking like pretty girls.

Dave did wear alot of makeup at times. But he had a smile on his face.

I'd thank 3 parts aeroesmith and 1 part sabbath for that blessed period in music history.

Yeah but what about Vince Neil wantin to be david lee roth? Thats true tho isn't it? Like dude Steve tyler was never anything close to Dave, dave was his own style. And Dave came out there and did things other bands wished and wished they had the sound of and so came these other bands.

Do u honestly think these bands would really exist without Van Halen?

I never heard them site VH as an influence. I have heard them praise KISS and aerosmith many times.

Songwriting wise, definately not halen thematically.

Well of course not tho. I mean i remember seein this one Motley Video and he looked absolutly identical to dave and i'm like wtf this isn't VH or DLR who the fuck is this wannabe? I mean even Beavis and Butt-head said on one of there episodes that (in reference to Vince) "Who is this guy, man this guy wishes he was David lee Roth"

It's well documented that Dave was a big influence on Vince Neil. Also Tommy Lee was a HUGE Van Halen fan. I dont see the tie in with Steve Tyler, as Aerosmith was around alot longer than VH. But possibly when Dave started to wear the flashier clothes, perhaps Tyler emulated that a bit more than already doing so.
Not sure about Poison, although there is a kick ass interview on this site with CC Deville talking about Dave being an ass kicking rock n roller. Kiss and VH are ying and yang IMO.
Quiet Riot might be fans of classic VH, but both bands were starting around the same time. (actualy I think Q Riot were playing clubs b4 VH)

I swear i was talkin to my dad and other people around back then an shit and they were all sayin when Van halen with DLR came out there was nobody like 'em, nobody ever was, totally new sound. Thats how i figured that Motley and all those bands stemmed from VH as wannabe VH bands. Thats what people always told me.

No I think Dave got flashy from other influences. I think the glam bands got their style from tyler,

I don't remember tyler being effected by VH at all. He maintained a pretty consistent fashion sense from late 70's through the 80's.

Any of this well documented DLR influence on Vince Neil would be GREATLY appreciated by the way. Also proof that Eddie changed the way guitar was played and how Nikki Sixx is nowhere near the guitarist Eddie is. Anything please, i feel like everybody thinks i'm a nutcase for some reason these people don't know anything about van Halen. I need proof man. And when i'm talkin about VH y'know i mean DLR

huh, nikki sixx plays bass not guitar. sure roth was an influence on all frontmen but motley crue never tried to sound anything like vh. eddie was a huge influence on guitar shredders like george lynch and about all hair metal bands but the only band that i can think of that directly ripped off van halen was the bulletboys. there lead singer marq torien looked like roth, they were produced by ted templeman and supposedly they were signed because of a lack of dlr van halen in the market and the record company signed them to fill that gap and it worked initially, there first cd sold very well. kind of like kingdom come was signed due to lack of zeppelin material.

goto Google.com and type: sixx and bass and your sure to find something to substantiate that statement, thus proving your point.

Van Halen created the bluepint that created the special parmasan/cheddar blend that l8r bands like "the crue" base their musical composition and presentation on.

yeah you're right. Tyler was pretty flashy way back then, as well as Plant come to think of it. Im starting to think VH emultaed alot of 60's, 70's bands themselves. But they perfected that vibe!
