    Could it be?

I was just cruising Pause and Play's website for new releases and came accross this for 2006:

Van Halen (box set; title TBA) (Rhino/Warner, TBA)

    Here is a link:

Scroll down to the bottom of the page in the blue reissues section.

I sure hope it is a bunch of unreleased Dave stuff and a complete concert. Oakland '81 anybody?

Expanded 'Let It Be' DVD Due September
    Published: 2005-07-28
The 1970 documentary that caught the Beatles’ demise on film is finally set to be released on DVD. Let It Be has not been available to own on home recording for over 20 years, and after years of restoring and reediting, a revamped version with bonus footage will land in the hands of Beatles fanatics everywhere.

Although the details on what Let It Be extras will be included with the DVD aren’t certain, it’s expected that the original 80-minute documentary will be expanded with audio recordings recovered in 2003, as well as all 35-minutes of the legendary rooftop performance at Apple headquarters.

There is no exact release date for the DVD, but word on the street is that Apple Records will put the remastered Let It Be doc on shelves this September. Originally intended to catch the Fab Four ‘live’ at work in the studio, both the Let It Be documentary and album capture the immensely influential and beloved band falling apart at the seams.

parts of the rooftop concert are available at videocodezone.com

As far as Rhino is concerned, if it's a reissue then unreleased stuff won't happen. Releasing Oakland 81 on video would just cause the younger fans to say things like Shit, what happened to this band.
I hate to say it, but I think a remastered Sham boxed set is more likely.

      Absolutely, 100% true.

Of course, they're already saying that after listening to the BOBW collection.

It doesn't even say 2006. It just says TBA. Chinese Democracy is TBA....you take it from there. My guess is it's a work in progress and in Van Halen land, that could take a while.

Van Halen land may not have anything to do with it. could be another WB cash grab.

That's not neccessarily the case. It depends on the band more than it does the label. Using two Rhino box sets as examples, the first being the Grateful Dead's "Golden Road 1965-1973" and the other being Black Sabbath's "Black Box".

The Dead box is a masterpiece with enough bonus tracks on each disc to double the length of the original albums. Plus a 2 disc compilation of early demos and live recordings of the Dead from 1965-67. And the sound is an incredible improvement, even over the original WB issued CD's.

The Sabbath Box , by comparison is very lean. Only one bonus track, which was actually part of the original UK release of the first album. And a short DVD of a live performance on a 1970 TV show. The sound on the discs is great, but very little additional material here for those who own all the albums already.

A Van HALEN box set could go either way. We all KNOW there's enough material in the vaults to double the length of the CD's just like the Dead albums. Plus enough live material in the can to assemble CD's, DVD's or both. The question here is whether or not Eddie and his sister continue to be fucking assholes about it and not release the material. Furthermore, if the TOTAL FAILURE of last years so called "Best of" compilation with new Hagar tracks doesn't drive home the message of what the fans want and what we DON'T want, then nothing can save it.

Bottom line, this box set CAN be worth the wait, but only if David Lee Roth, Edward Van Halen, and Ted Templeman are equally involved in the project.

                            There fuckin' better be!

'Cuz short of some phenominal CVH stuff on a mixed-era box set, I won't be getting it.

Bad enough we had to shell out money towards Van Hagar with the whole BOV1 biz just to get the two 1996 CVH tracks and 1984 promo vids.

Fuckin' Al pretending there's nothing previously unreleased from the CVH period worth putting out. We know better. Put it out there and let US be the judges.

Then again, Al thought dumping Dave in 1996 and getting Cherone in there was a worthwhile move, so it'll probably be a mixed box-set heavy on the Van Hagar, with no input from Dave.
