Gar that just blows me away. That some people do not know a Van Halen existed before Van Hagar. They didnt know there was a Roth era. That just blows me away. Damn....

If that happened to me I would just throw out all my Van Hagar albums and ask Ed why did you hire Sammy Hagar???

Its a well known fact because a big band name grows bigger than the people itself - its then a small franchise like the McDonald's logo..

or int this case, VAN HALEN

BUT I never come across a REAL Van Halen fan who did not notice how sucky an dcorney Van Hagar was.

People buy into the logo, too. people buy into the logo next time they're at the store or buiying concert tickets without determining if it's even the same band.

For example, the Mexicans around here have had about 6 different bands called "Tierra" from different configurations of the band and little in the way of intereest towards protecting the trademeark. They'll hire a new drummer, then he'll go off and play out as "Tierra" etc.

so sometimes it seems from all the "Tierra" logoed flyers in the summertime that "Tierra" is a big-name local Latino act when its not.. just one of a couple different configuratiosn of people playing a similar 30-years old setlist of Santana, WAR and other Old Skool crap from the 70's who use that franchise-logo as a crowd-drawing badge of honor.

We'll see with great interest just how this summer's concert schedule goes and how smoothly it does or does not go off

i think this sums up the whole van halen controversy, "without roth in the band who cares". i will listen to my first 6 van halen cd's and dave's solo stuff which is much better than the crap van hagar produced. to be fair to sammy he put out some good solo material before he destroyed van halen and his solo career. a shame really praise dlr eternally.
