He has sparingly played YR over the last 10 years, he's been doing 95% VH, if not more. And up until recently he wasn't doing it at all.

Face it, he rarely plays any of his solo shit, a song here and there.

And Sam's solo crap is just that...crap. Who cares. At least Dave had a song here and there.
don't argue for the sake of arguing. That's (fill in name here)'s job.

He sparingly played solo stuff because he caters to the old school, hard core cvh fan. This keeps him prepared for the inevitable VH reunion. :D Sam's solo stuff is crap. Id listen to Van Hagar before Id listen to Sam solo, fo sho! Damn Good (not one of my fav's at all) would be very out of character for Dave. Knucklebones? I dunno. That's Steve Vai playin'? Maybe there's a connection there? I always dug Knucklebones though.

I guess it boils down to what the majority of his audience wants to hear. CVH. Too bad the other 3 guys in the band don't play music that the fans want to hear.
"FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKIN' BITCH! WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAYS? TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? FUCK YOU. DRAG QUEEN LOOKIN' WHORE- YOU AINT SHIT. YOUR THE FRECKLE TO THE LEFT OF MY BROWN EYE. NOW GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL...OH, PUT DAD ON THE PHONE"

      AMEN.

That's been my argument for YEARS...had they actually warmly embraced their history and treated it with some FUCKING RESPECT rather than hid from it back in 1986 (and forward, with the slight exception of 1998), my opinion of certain other singers might have been a lot higher.

It's amazing...Van Halen is the only band I can honestly think of that refuses to embrace it's history.

        Especially at their age.
