Well from a historical perspective, the spanish colonial influence has existed in the Southwestern US for a very long time. Similar to the french colonial influence of Canada. So having Spanish as a second language and the teaching native american languages wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
But the american businesses should not be lenient on working conditions no matter where the employees come from. And it would be wise to have the US National guard patrol the border rather than keep em in Iraq. Foreign worker entry policies should be more lenient. But if someone were to cross the border for work, they should initiate contact with the local US consulate; where employers can post job openings, file the proper paperwork, and get a ride from a legitimate passenger vehicle while going through a border crossing, not the desert.
And if someone fails to go through a legitimate border crossing and go through the land here are two options: If they are not armed while crossing the border illegally than detain them, but if they have a weapon (even if they are the Mexican army) shoot em. Finally, it would be wise to get rid of that rule allowing citizenship status to babies of illegal immigrants in the US; that rule has been abused god knows how many times.

As you know California a.k.a. Mexifornia now has a legal holiday to honor United Farm Worker's union organizer Cesar Chavez's birthday. It is ironic that Illegal Mexicans and supporters of Illegal Aliens celebrate this holiday.

Cesar Chavez fought constantly against illegal immigration. He frequently complained that the Immigration & Naturalization Service wasn't tough enough on Illegal Aliens. When Chavez would lead a strike, the grower would send trucks across the Mexican border, load them up with scabs, and race back to the Central Valley in the dead of night. Chavez even offered his UFW staffers to the INS to serve as volunteer border guards to keep Mexicans from sneaking into California.

There's the way it should be and there is the way it is. I think we are past the point of no return on illegal immigration because we have let it go on too long. Now if we try to stomp on it, we get rioting from illegal immigrants and their sympathizers.

Throwing those who hire illegal immigrants into jail is what should have been done but now if we do that, our country comes to a standstill.

If illegal immigrants went on strick tommorrow, nothing would run. Resturants, golf courses, farms, hotels, resorts, construction, maintenance, manufacturing would all come to a screaching halt. Not to mention the rich would have to do their own dishes and mow their own lawn.

Millions of illegals come here and don't pay taxes and then use our welfare and health care. They might make low wages but it adds up when you have millions working. By making them legal we can tax them.

There's no easy answer on the matter. Not enforcing our laws has gotten us into this mess.

At least Spanish is a sexy language. Why not learn it? It can open up some opportunities and who wouldn't like to talk dirty to Shakira in Spanish as they romp her good?:D
