It's all over...hell, it's been over since September of '96...

"So there, I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show..."

He drove the car?...in 1996? You think he was DRIVING that car?

He fronted the band for two songs...don't confuse it as driving the car...

or it wouldn't have been such a fucking clusterfuck...

Dave's book makes it very clear that he wasn't driving that car at all. He barely found music he liked to sing on. Those two songs are excellent...ME WISE MAGIC is still my favorite Van Halen song of all time. But Dave was clearly taking orders from the drunk psychotic. He even had to have his lyrics and melodies approved. I can't even imagine anyone trying to tell him what to do in 1980.

I interpreted "driving the car" as Dave being the lifeforce that made the music unique and special.

                                and to Plexi-...

I could go into the exactness of the 2 songs in 1996...but I've done it so many damn times already...that I'm tired of it...

let me just say a a couple of things...

                                1. In 1985, you can pass along the blame to whomever you want. I've seen interviews from Dave at the time where he was definitively saying he was still in the band...waiting for everyone else to do shit...

even so...in 1985...there were 2 egos...that split the game up...

                                2. In 1996...EVH had a chance to make things right...Dave did too. Before Dave could do anything...right or wrong...Ed reared his anorexic ass...then did it again in 2000...although I'm sure in 2000...there was some Dave and the lawyers in there as well...although there's no proof...

                                3. I've heard Roth talk about the 2 songs in 1996...and various things from others in here on HOW much of the songs were Dave...but I 100% think that those songs are more NOT his...than his...or he'd perform them live. He doesn't...

They sounded as good as any tune between 1980 and 1985 that these guys put out...

but they WERE NOT put together in any way close to the way they were put together when they were actually together...

                                That being said...

Well...not sure what I was trying to say...

Not even sure that we disagree...

still chuckling over the lifeforce line though...
