Dave makes a good point about getting closure and movin' on...

That is what a VH/Roth reunion would be for me... 1 album, 1 tour, retire the name, give the fans closure, and move on.

If that happened, I think we could all accept Ed, Al, and Dave pursuing other musical interests from that point forward...

Why don't Ed and Al get that. Maybe it's true that Ed just doesn't have it in him anymore... either that or he just plain doesn't want Dave to enjoy VH ever again.

For the record, I'm COMPLETELY behind a Roth / VH Reunion. To me there's nothing better than Dave & Ed on the same stage.

That being said, I will speak for myself and look at it like this. I have a buddy of mine who I've known since we were both 8 years old. I'm now 35. The thing is, my buddy has always been over the top and in your face. His intentions are good and I understand that. But as I've grown older I've kinda moved away from that. Sure he's still a great friend and it's good to see him every once in a while and hang out and reminisce, but if I spend too much time around him, it fucking creates some kind of weird anxiety where I just can't be in the room with him for long. His over the top energy and hyperactiveness combined with his desire to always be the life of the party drives me nuts. So therefore, small doses of him go a long way and if we go months in between hanging out, it's okay...we're still friends.

I know it's a stretch...and I know my friendship with my bud isn't a money making career that folks are dying to see, but perhaps this is what Ed feels. He probably really still loves Dave like a brother, but he's moved away from the idea of living the life of BEING a brother / partner in crime. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks. I was just trying to take an objective look at the situation.

I saw both Eddie and Roth on stage when they were kings and on top of their game. Roth for his age does amazingly well but Eddie is a drunken train wreck. Who really wants to see these guys together anymore? Hold onto your memories of the classic shows many moons ago.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

my .02$ is that Deadward is so spun out on Meth that he is completely paranoid of being near DLR...

Maybe if he sobers up again, he can get his head straight enough to play with HV again. You never hear of DLR being too drugged out to do it (except maybe the US fest 83 concert)

It just boggles the mind that Ed would throw away so much for so little in return. Meth is death.

It may be a matter of pride. The stubborn, vengeful kind.Keep in mind,a lot of water has passed under the VH bridge, and, perhaps that bridge has long been burned. Its passive aggressive.Whats the one thing Dave wants?A final tour, closure. And so,the law of PA (passive aggression)says:No.Its cutting off the nose to spite the face.It doesnt matter if Eddies a trainwreck,or,it would help them,or,what the fans want. Its a small, pathetic, infantile part of their collective ego that says"Fuck no,never!".We dont know all the details.Maybe in their shoes we would feel the same.I tend to think they could make this happen.I feel if it were just Dave, and,Ed sorting this out, then,it would happen. But one thing is for sure;I will NEVER,EVER,NEVER,NEVER,NEVER,EVER,NEVER,NEVEEEEEEE EEEEER,forgive them for hiring the screechin hog!

I saw them on the "Fair Warning", "Diver Down / Hide Your Sheep" and "1984" tours and there's a part of me that thinks it COULD BE that good again...given the right circumstances...but as with most arguments, none of us know WTF happened unless we were in the same room with these guys when it all went down. It's just a classic case of all parties involved believing THEY are right.

                    I agree 100%!

One last tour would be final closure for the band and the fans.

The ball is now is Ed's court.

                    Drunken bastard.

Do you all remember when the split happened in 1985?

The majority of fans jumped on the VH/Sammy bandwagon. The sentiment that Dave was not a serious musician emerged and the 'down-with-Dave' banners became a staple of that first 5150 tour. That said, I think most VH fans who were lured into the Sammy thing now realize what a big scam it really was... 20 years later... with Dave's new radio show and 10 years of Van Halen fiascos, the VH tide may be finally swinging Dave's way.

This must bug Ed and Al to no end, but they could make all well again by doing one reunion with Dave, 1 album, 1 tour, maybe a collector's set of unreleased material. They have the keys to the kingdom and they're not doing anything about it. It's sad.

I wouldnt expect the band to get back together for the long haul. One final tour would be good enough for most of us........I wish these fuckers would grow up, if only for a year or so..........

Im guessing Al, Mike and Ed are worried about if Dave can really go, the way he says he can? I think they are also worried about being pushed to the back of the stage again like pre-85. Remember how pissed Al was, when in an interview he claimed Roth said "fuck you and your hip, this is about ME"? I think Dave is a take control, my way or highway guy and the sisters have tasted the role of Judge, Jury and Executioner ever since they hired Shammy. It's a power thing. An image thing and a swallowing pride thing. But I do believe Dave when he says those 6 recordings he has from 2000 are off the chart original rock and roll tunes that will make you change your hair cut. And I also believe Edward is doing fine, prob rehabbing somewhere and getting the support he needs. He's got too many friends in the biz, that if he was real bad on meth, someone would step in.

"Once Eddie (Van Halen - guitar) does that, everything else he does can be seen with a fresh eye.

"Van Halen would go out for three months. That's all Eddie could handle."

This is the stuff that pisses Eddie off. It would piss me off. Who is Dave to say "thats all Eddie can handle" It may very well be true but if Dave really wants a reunion why incite Eddie and stay stuff like that to the press.
