Not a chance of it being a hoax.
I find it hard NOT to hear Edward in the solo. Weird that others can't hear him.
I don't hear an ounce of Ed in that solo. Even when Ed's sound turned to processed, it was still different than this. But the alternate picking passages are totally off from Ed's. On the "Twister" soundtrack, Ed did a similar track to this, but the whole picking technique thing is way off from Ed's... Unless he overhauled his style completely and I didn't notice... Maybe this solo is Brian Young...
No time to read the whole thread, but the clip is definitely not Eddie.
Sounds more like a run-of-the-mill '80s shredder. The whole clip is filled with licks that are extremely un-Eddie-like, and are much more characteristic of post-Yngwie imitators (for example the tightly picked descending minor arpeggio followed by the ascending diminished arpeggio- totally un-EVH).
All the "classical" type runs have such a square approach and feel to them, sticking to specific scales, using very definite repeated picking patterns, very square and worked-out, completely unlike Eddie's kamikaze ethic.
"What we've been doing, which is great and certainly cost saving, is I train in the sand pit in McDonald's. I do a few laps. I go through the tunnel a few times. The kids don't mind if I smoke. Plus, when I'm done, lunch is right there."- DLR 2003
The wild life soundtrack music sounded just like ed circa 1984! That should be released as it was awesome jams, better to hear just ed on guitar and drums than with hagar f-ing up the music!
From a non - Musical background except years of listening with
my ear in the speakers, i would say Ed, is capable of this great
display of classical Mozart(sp), introspective explanation of
Eruption as a symphonic masterpiece it is as easily him as
well as anyone else.(not just any yaywho,fo-sho)
He did name his kid Wolfgang so odds are Ed warms up with
classical expressions of his guitar music.
Anyway, i would like to hear Lots of rock guitar tunes turned out this way. That was cool wish it was longer.Thanks...
I could probably go to the Juliard school and wait for the phd guitarist
to -quiz out- on thier thesis live in front of the the Board and hear
lots of this type of -take-.

Actually, EVH is known for warming up with just playing scales--something he was taken to task for, since in the same Guitar Player interview, he said with regard to his playing "Fuck the rules," but warms up in the traditional manner.
BTW, I liked that solo that DavidFlamma posted--but still don't think it's Eddie!

I tried converting the file I posted to a wav file and it seems Microsoft has been able to install some spyware in one of their updates requiring you to purchase a plug-in or some shit to convert the WM audio file to a wav.
