    DLR Cancels Boston Visit

Static gets louder as Roth snubs Hub

David Lee Roth’s radio days are numbered. Critics pan him. His ratings are horrendous. He’s difficult to work with and on air he’s dared his CBS bosses to fire him.

    And the list goes on.

Roth - who replaced shock jock Howard Stern on the East Coast in January - snubbed the Hub.

The former Van Halen rockerwas scheduled to do his morning show live at Boston’s WBCN today and tomorrow but cancelled last minute, citing “scheduling conflicts.”

“It’s a matter of waiting for the blow up. He’s really interesting, but so far that hasn’t translated into a compelling radio show,” said Tom Taylor, editor of Inside Radio.

“I don’t think David’s having a good time,” Taylor said. “Radio is a lot harder to do than it sounds.”

Despite a big billboard and bus marketing blitz, WBCN has lost about 100,000 listeners from December to January when Roth took over. The station’s morning ratings dropped to 12th place from first.

The ratings for Stern’s West Coast replacement, comedian Adam Carolla, were even worse.

If Roth can’t come close to replacing Stern - who left CBS for XM Satellite Radio - who can?

Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, said there are two obvious choices: syndicated talk jock Mancow Muller or former WAAF duo Opie & Anthony, who have an XM Satellite Radio show and were rumored to be in talks with CBS.

“Somebody is going to replace David Lee Roth,” Harrison said. “Radio people do much better on radio than non-radio people.”

Don Kelley, programming vice president for Greater Media’s five Boston stations, said WBCN could always return to playing music.

“People have given it a try and they’re not liking it,” Kelley said of Roth. “All you hear are stories about how he doesn’t want any input. That’s not the way to win.”

A CBS spokeswoman said there’s no truth to the rumor that Opie & Anthony are replacing Roth, who has turned down recent interview requests by the Herald because of “scheduling conflicts.”

CBS should thank their lucky stars they have Dave.

Were it not for Dave being Stern's replacement, their listernership might have dropped even MORE drastically after Stern left.

Oh...and it is pronounced W BEE CN....

    :D

Do you think Tom C is holding Dave back doing remotes? dave spent St Pattys week in Boston on the radio last year, that is why he got this gig. They are holding Dave back, maybe hoping he will bail, then they don't pay him?

I think Dave should get out of this crapola Radio Gig and get back on the road and do some Concert Appearances.

This whole Radio BS has really been nothing but a negative experience for both ROTH and US Listeners.

We want ROTH, the Suits with hearing aids don't.....so be it. Let them THINK they can get a Personality that can bring up their ratings. I dare them to find someone better! Not gonna happen....not immediately, anyway. Adam Carolla can't bring the ratings up for the West Coast, so there seems to be a pattern for both ROTH & CAROLLA.. H-E-L-L-O....much like Stern indicated, it takes more than a Month (more like 18 mos.) to get a groove in place.

        Dave deserves better.

Why should he have to put up with BS from the Geriatric Ward of CBS ???

BTW "SUITS"....Nurse Ratchett is ready to give you men your afternoon "Wake Up" pill. GET A CLUE!!!

I, for one, will be thrilled when Dave is no longer on radio, where he doesn't belong, getting bashed mercilessly, and gets back to making music.

I wanted him to do well, but he's never going to be allowed to. Just get back on the road.

Good to see Roth's doing better than corolla. It takes longer that a few months for people to warm to a new host. Its like moving to a small town. Ya aint a local till you do the time

I'm not so shure about this analogy -Non-Radio People-.

Are not most -"Radio People"- Ex musicians who couldn't make it in the music industry not all but a large percentage have a low grade
Rock Band lack of success History.

Dave comes from Dual success and i would value his op over any of these othe fuks.... Man Cow is a wannabe and not very interesting
                        at all..

People in radio have no concept of what is interesting or compelling. The description above is exactly what someone in the early 80's would say about Stern. They all watched Private Parts and said "We aren't like Pig Vomit, radio is so much different now". But obviously it is not. Let's take historic highs, which will not be repeated ever again (20 year buildup to that last quarter) and base the next guys fortunes on that. Why do you think so many people passed on that gig? "It's the hottest seat in radio"...Roth KNEW. Everyone Knew. So why play dumb and say he is "failing"?

If they even had their facts straight they would realize Dave actually is rated HIGHER than any of the other talent they have in place. In the same survey these dickheads use to base their basing on Roth (who had a 1.9), Carolla doesn't even have a ratings point (.9) and fucking Rover is unchartable. Is anyone calling for Carolla's head? No, because he is the height of a company man, surronded on his show by company men. They are trying out their "ideas" in the most bland way possible. I pray we could have Roth on in LA. All we get is sandpaper voice and his fucking Quizno's prime rib sub selling every hour on the hour.

Roth is fighting the good fight. Anyone bagging on him for trying to do it different and his way is a douche. If he fails, let him fail HIS way. Get the fuck out of the way and stop with these stupid predictions of "days are numbered". CBS is way beyond fucked if they get rid of him. He might not have a hit show at the moment, but they have nobody in the bullpen to replace him.
