Eddie's playing on the III Tour was awesome, and he sounds great on this clip. And Mike did sing it well.

BassPlayer SUCKED.....No use in attempting CVH without ROTH....there are no substitutes or stand-ins for the real thing.

I say send them back to Pasadena to start from scratch.

Gary gets put down a lot, but the guy did everything he could to keep the fans happy. He was doomed from day one. He was prepared to go out there and sing a whole lot of DLR era songs because he knew people would want to hear them. Whether ya liked the way he sang them or not, he DID sing them, and that's more than VH fans got from 1986-1996.

I've never really dug SGMAD with MA on lead vocals all that much. As he's said, he's not really a lead singer. Hearing a latter day Van Halen play that song, though, is cool. It's such a shame that SO many awesome songs will probably never again be played by Van Halen in ANY incarnation, let alone with Dave at the helm...

Except when Dave covers them with three other musicians right? Then it's ok.

I think he's doing radio this week.

And I think his "band" is down to one guitarist at the moment.

Or is Toshi still around? Haven't heard anything about him recently.

There is harmony to the ears if Dave is the one doing the singing...after all, those were his signature tunes..BUT ideally, nothing would be more music to the ear than to hear Dave's voice and enthusiasm if he were performing those songs with his original band members.

Bassplayer is a background harmony voice only.

listen to the party dude version of "just like paradise"...dave's band is so tight on that song, the backround harmonies are fantastic and ray plays it better than anything alexis or bisonette could lay down...

now...give me just ONE bootleg of the whole 2004 van hagar tour, where the grab your money band is almost as good as that band...

I totally agree with you, Ed was on top form that tour. I heard a boot ages ago of I'm the One form the VDIII tour in Austria and Ed nailed that song. You have to wonder had the reunion with Dave worked, and with Ed back on top form how good that tour really could have been

Good call. White was really 'in' in '98-'99.

On the performance as a whole, it's bloody good IMHO apart from when Mr Cherone prances to the microphone during the interlude section. Eddie's playing is red hot. He was so 'on' for that tour it was unbelievable; he totally nailed all the CVH material. Put Dave as the front man of this and you would have had people queuing down the street. That's what shocked me about 2004. Eddie's playing was unspeakably bad by his standards; he obviously hadnt been playing for several years.
