Today's NY Post --Dave "Fading Out?"

    FADING OUT

    By JOHN MAINELLI

March 30, 2006 -- DAVID Lee Roth appears headed for another showdown with CBS Radio - this one potentially fatal.

Howard Stern's replacement - who got more rotten ratings news earlier this week - was mysteriously absent from yesterday's show on Free FM (92.3), the day after a reported run-in with management.

Roth has been broadcasting - with frequent technical glitches - from the Winter Music Conference in Miami this week.

"He is on his way back from Miami and is scheduled to return to the air on Friday," said a CBS spokeswoman, declining to explain the two-show gap except to say that "he was not suspended."

The former Van Halen frontman was ordered to make significant changes to his radio show this week, sources told The Post. CBS brass read him the riot act last month, too, but this time were much more forceful, the sources said.

CBS execs are insistent that the famously stubborn Roth get a Robin Quivers-style sidekick, take direction from his bosses and put more effort into his show.

There is reason for concern. Roth's audience was down to an estimated 32,000 listeners last month, off 88 percent from Stern's 277,000 last December.

Stern has claimed on Sirius Satellite Radio that he heard Roth "does no show prep or post-production meetings, curses when he has to record commercials [and] is always angry and complaining."

After his first dressing down last month, Roth complained on the air that CBS wanted him to be a Stern clone ("more Paris Hilton than Paris, France") and vowed, "I refuse to dummy down."

Since then, however, his guest roster has included strippers, porn stars and even Roth's own version of Stern's Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf - a diminutive lad named Two-Foot Fred.

Roth was replaced yesterday and today by mid-dayers JV & Elvis - no strangers to early rising after hosting a top-rated wakeup show in San Francisco for several years.

I just downloaded Stern's show from today. Artie (who's says "just shred that...I feel bad for the guy!," Robin, and Stern defend Dave as Howard slams CBS Radio for scapegoating Roth despite the fact his fellow CBS DJs have the same ratings or worse...

Very interesting MP3 on the way; Howard also claims that Dave is frustrated has been getting "physical" and fighting people...

He also talks about Dave's guranteed, two-year contract for $8 million, and how CBS will try to fuck him out of it......

Now why does this sound so familiar?
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Dave will come out of this without flesh wounds. Dave is the WINNER - he doesn't live or die by this Radio Gig or CBS' payroll.

The only thing that will tarnish is CBS' Reputation, their listener base and perhaps their television base.

Dave gets the last laugh on the scum in suits.

              Ciao, CBS.

Part of the ratings problem is the markets he is in. I live in San Diego, and when this all came down, we got Adam Corolla. WTF! If you asked San Diegans who either guy was/is, 99.9% would tell you exactly who Roth is. And on the flip side, 99.9% who say "who the fuck is Adam Carol? The Happy Gilmore dude?"

Southern CA has a love affair with Dave, and I can't believe they wouldn't have put him in this market. Stupid fucking out of touch executives need pull their heads out.

And quit comparing his ratings to Stern for Christs sake! Compare his ratings to other start up morning shows. Stern had years to build his following. Not only years, but TV and movies and awards shows and news/magazine articles. It took Howard a long time to build that fan base.

Personally I have no interest in listening to Dave when he can only do a lame, suckass show per the FUCKING CBS SUIT ASSLICKER'S instructions.

When he was in charge of 'content' it was interesting.

                        CBS fucked it all up.

                        FUCK CBS!!!

I see the ratings dropping from how many ever were listening to a Radio
Show on the web from however many there were to Zero hope they like that

Maybe, just maybe, this is all a ploy to get some free publicity for the show, and head it in a bit of a new direction. Maybe Roth isn't on the bubble. They could just be throwing all of this drama out there so everyone will be talking about it and tune in to see how it plays out. Which they are. Either way, I hope they give Dave enough of a chance to get into a groove.
