This goes back to the "Brownsound" thread....I remember thinking that Ed's tone had changed a bit listening to the Mean Street intro. If you compare the intro to "Fools" to the Mean Street deal, it's pretty apparent.

Not to wear out the same old cliche', but Fair Warning is the darkest album, IMO.

Post krell wars social commentary. Seedy parts of town, porn, wild in the streets....fucking somebody's old lady. All tied together perfectly with an ode to lost virginity.

        "So This Is Love?"

There you have it, in summary.

My second favorite Van Halen record.

STILL my all-time favorite VH album. Angry, dark...just fucking brutal, and it stands up to this day. The intro to 'Mean Streets' speaks for itself, and the solo to 'Sinner's Swing!' is one of Eddie's greatest "WTF?" moments...sounds like he wants to kill somebody!! :D

I just remember riding my bicycle to the local record shop. One of those places that reeked of insense and had all the drug paraphanalia for sale under the glass checkout counter. You know, the type of old school record store where the dude behind the counter was stoned and would buy your beer for you if you got to know him.

Anyways, I'm looking for the new Van Halen album and could not find it. I asked Mr. Stoner Record Shop Dude where it was and I was standing right infront of a whole display of Fair Warning record covers. That brown, busy, dark and twisted cover was so un-Van Halen. I was looking for the flying VH with the band on the cover.

Anyways I hurried home and put Fair Warning on my dads McIntosh stereo setup in the living room with the big six foot electrostatic speakers (my dad was an audiofile). Mean Streets starts ripping and I'm thinking COOL! My grandmother who was living with us went "Oh my!" Grandma couldn't handle it and that made it all the better. I deffinately knew I had something great!
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

Fair Warning is the apex of Van Halen for me.

CVH got bigger with Diver Down and 1984, but the band was never better, and neither of those albums are QUITE as brilliant from start to finish as Fair Warning was.

Some of Ed's best work (the Meanstreet intro is still one of those "how the fuck did he DO that" moments, even AFTER learning the technique). Some say Sunday Afternoon In The PArk and One Foot Out The Door are weak moments, but i still dig 'em and can't imagine the album without them.

Have said it before, but when those guys come back into the chorus of Sinner's Swing! after the guitar solo, they're nailing it so hard...magic. Gives me the chills to this day. Wonder if those guys just KNEW how fucking good they were?

they were that fucking good, because they didn't think about it...they just had that "where we are is the top"-attitude and DID it...

Fair Warning is my fav VH album. The only thing that bums me out like other 6 pack VH albums is how damn sort they are. There has got to be at leat 5 or 6 extra songs that didnt make the cut for each CVH album. Already fully recorded somewhere and just collecting dust. If Warner Brothers were smart they would release those tunes in a double cd set, or in a few differnt albums spread out over 6 mounths. If we cant get a CVH reunion that would for sure be the next best thing. I would be content with that!!

I bet that would really piss off the sister having their fans be content. Those fucking pussy fag fucks!!!!!
