This thread is full of wisdom and humor!! What a day!
I'm very proud of what was that band and what was that show and what it did mean to people. It disgusts me that it has turned into the complete opposite. That it now represents everything that I spoke against, that we suppoesedly represented the converse of. I don't want to have to remember that the team turned into that. Makes me question what the team was while I was a member. Was it all bullshit? If nothing else, it confirms in my mind that from my standpoint - yours truly, David Lee - not a fraction. If nothing else, this kind of morbid, wounded animal anger aimed my way has caused me to look deep into that bathroom mirror and come back to you with "my shit was legit." It was for real. And perhaps the test is time. Because here I am, a decade and a half later, haven't changed much. I look a little different, but not much. My sense of humour is about the same.

Alex should have stuck with the drum sound he had on Fair Warning. A great example is the snare drum sound on So This Is Love. Top notch!!!!! I understand the use of electronic drums and the recent technology used in reproducing acoustic sounds. I guess I am old school. I feel the same way about amp modeling. It is really neat to dial up whatever sound you want or need, but nothing beats an old fashioned tube amp.

I hear ya...our guitar player uses a vetta line6 and the bass player the bass-POD...you are totally right about the tube amp and the accoustic drums but when you do covers and play small stages and have to carry the shit you make it most pracitcal...

we need less than an hour for the set up and the soundcheck now...

I agree, times have changed and the days of lugging around a Marshall stack are over. Back in the early to late eighties it was all about looks and stage drama. The more amps behind you, the cooler you looked. LOL LOL. Have a great day Diamond Dave.

Easy Natra. Step away from the red button. :-) When I started the thread, it wasn't a question of gear, but of the the 5150 album. But it has kinda turned into a gear thread. Not my intentions though.

I think the electronic drums were used when Ed's ego insisted the band record in a studio made from a raquetball court instead of renting a real studio with more room, sepparate rooms, and better accoustics.

5150 was the result of Vallerie Bertinelli getting tired of Ed's loud volume in the house and she suggested Ed take the exercise room and gym up the hill from the house and turn it into a music studio. Ed and Don Landee then got the idea of turning it into a recording studio when and old mixing board and studio equipment became available. 5150 was done on the cheap with Don Landee himself restoring some old used studio equipment.

I mean it was just a home project of Ed's and then Ed realized they could make albums in 5150. Apparently David Lee Roth was not happy that Ed was forcing the band to record there.

I hate 5150, that ugly box of a shitty building to me represents the ending of classic Van Halen and the begining of the ass smelling Van Hagar. 5150 should be the name of a brand of cheese because that is what 5150 cranks out in droves.
