Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, whose morning talk show replaced Howard Stern's on CBS Radio, was dropped on Friday, the Associated Press reports. His syndicated show had aired in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and four other markets for less than three months.

"I was booted, tossed, and it's going to cost somebody," Roth said on his final broadcast, hinting that his lawyers would seek full compensation for his reported $4 million contract.

The cancellation – which Roth said he learned about while riding in a car to his Manhattan studio – came a few days before the show got its first Arbitron numbers, which would have indicated the size of its audience.

CBS Radio spokeswoman Shavonne Harding said the company would soon announce Roth's replacement, although it appears she's been beaten to the punch.

Shock jocks Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia – whose show now airs on XM Satellite Radio, said on their Web site Friday: "Well, it's all over the news, so apparently we can talk about it now ... so much for keeping a lid on this. 'The Opie and Anthony Show' will be replacing David Lee Roth in several markets on CBS Radio FREEE-FM stations."

Ironically, their show was taken off the air by CBS Radio in 2002 after the shock jocks aired a broadcast of two listeners having sex in New York City's St. Patrick's Cathedral.

No date has been given for their CBS debut, which begs the question of who will sit in Roth's seat come Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the AP reports, Opie and Anthony will do three hours of programming on both XM and CBS, plus two additional hours exclusively for the satellite audience.link here
