The clarity I see in this thread is giving me chills.
Why am I a Roth fan?
Roth has ALWAYS taken the high road, despite the moronic attitude displayed by the sisters and Hagar.
The man is so poised, so unflappable, and yet look at what he has accomplished in the last few months...even surprising people at this site.
He manages to pull off the impossible...a tribute to Van Halen that can stand on it's own, a legitimate bluegrass album that just screams the the spirit of Roth.
Just when you think he is done when the radio gig ended, he comes back larger than life, and promoting HIS LEGACY.
What a triumph for the man...standing tall. The CVH reunion is inevitable, I think...people just won't take no for an answer anymore.
Roth is an inspiration.sigpicRoth Army CanadaComment

Yeah but where does it end?
Next thing you know, you're gonna start judging your neighbor's "loyalty" cos his dog pisses on your lawn...
Sort of the "Eat Thy Neighbor" approach, no?
And coinkydinkly "appraoch" simply rhymes with ROACH!!! Get it?
I think I got it now...
You're either with us or you're against us as the rogue Rotharmy police officers say in the parking garage before they ride off on their motorcycles.
Mmmmm Hmmmm... We idle... VROOOM!!! :DEAT US AND SMILE!!!!

Then fucking say it... and take your lumps...
I don't like the new album.
Why?
A. 'Cause it's a TRIBUTE album. Not a CD filled with new end-of-the world-thug-pop-riffs that'll hit your collective consciousness like a hot pink Cadillac. "Yeah, but it's got Roth singin' on it!" So? It's just two fucking songs. I'm not impressed.
B. I'll admit, it sounds fresh, new and possibly exciting to some people. But guess what?
To me, the overall feel of the whole fuckin' thing is like trying to domesticate a wild animal. For example, so far Dave's been on pretty much EVERY daytime TV-show that'll have him... 'Cause he ain't rockin' this time. He's "strumming". Get it?
In closing, I'd rather give the 6-pack a new spin in the player than get this particular domesticated piece of shit in my house pissing on my stereo.
And if you can't handle the sound and feel of the originals...
Door's over there. Have a nice day, ya brainwashed softheaded cunt.
*waiting for first lump*Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I'm about the same. It takes something VERY SPECIAL to get me excited about a tribute album...but I will say that what I've heard of it so far is cool.
That being said, I also have reservations about original musicians performing on their own tribute albums...but that's another rant entirely...
Will I buy this? Not likely. Will I download Dave's songs? Probably.
Do I prefer the originals? Absolutely...
Still, I'm in favor of Dave hitting the circuit to promote it, however he can; at least SOMEBODY'S doing something to keep Van Halen alive in the public consciousness - and that deserves respect, no matter whether you're from camp Roth or camp Hagar.
And ESPECIALLY if you're from camp Edward.Twistin' by the pool.Comment

There are no degrees...
yes...
no...
no maybes...
liking both is the equivalent of sticking a fence post up your ass..."Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."Comment

It's not that I don't like Jump...
It's just not on my list of favorites...
I always like the video...until the story about the video being made became an everyday story...
I can't stand tribute albums...
but can't figure out how you can have a tribute album with the guy singing the tribute...the guy who sang the original..."Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."Comment
