oh yea and didnt go to Dave/Spam tour because Id get in a fight and didnt wanna pay a dime towards the Poodle.
1st show-Invasion Tour Sept 1980 at LA Sports arena paid 35.00 via scalper, Loge 13 row 12 seat 1------Changed my life, more than that was the most Intense night of my virgin life and I still have the shirt. Remember when Dave came out in the tiger tard w/bleached white hair, Ed wailing out with Romeo's Delight......Id pay a grand to have that on video to see it again. A+
Next year was the VH EPIC Fair Warning tour and me and my bro had 14th row sec a middle aisle June '81 at the Forum------this tour was VH at its prime, best album, stage and lighting was just fuckin BAD ASS in every aspect ive watched Oakland a thousand times and again would mortgage fido to have it on tape.......oh yea scalper cost was 75.00 a ticket seemed like 1000.00 in those days A+++
In Sept of '82 paid 125.00 for second row sec c seat 1 at center aisle.
snuck in a Cannon A1 and was shook down immediately for all film in camera and on person at the seat. of course i had that one sticky roll for last encore songs for backin those days got some killer shots all the while security ready to thump me but the front stage was rushed and i was tucked in safely. Great show but the album was not a favorite the band was on the top of the world and could do no wrong the band had become a machine- I have the Lion w/sunglasses tat on my rt arm A-
---2 months prior i did see DD in Green Bay but I reacall LITTLE. MOstly remeber my folks freaking when i showed up to hotel covered in dirt and torn clothing shredded jeans-------another POST of its own
Memorial Weekend of '83 US Festival 2
What a build up.....remeber listening to Jim Ladd on KMET when Dave announced theyd be headlining and now that I was living on my own was gonna go to this PERIOD.
Caravaned with 50 friends from Huntington Beach area of Orange County and had two kegs in the back of my truck with my VAN HLN license plate. Storied forever for the 2 days there but for a rocker at the time that was the perfect lineup only missing Def Lep cause Pyro had just exploded. Motley-Shock N Awe, Ozzy in a Witch Dr outfit killed it, Priest fuckin casting us into a frenzy, Triumph better than I could imagine -hadnt cared until that show, Scorps FUCKING STELLAR. Only problem me and a few went down 5 feet from stage dehydrated in 100+ and trying to hold front for VH we recuped uncer camera plat youc an see in videos....VH took 2 hrs to set up and play and as evidenced by the movie it was a B- for performance but an A for Hard Rock Paydays.
1984 tour cost 175 ea for 5th row and was the LAST time playing in LA.
Me the hottest blonde in OC and Limo for 2. I shelled out almost a grand but it was the way ID DO IT AGIN if they ever come home and Light Em Up Again. the Experience A+++ show was A but Ol No 7 was in the way of many clear memories.
1985 EEAS Wow Dave was perfect in every form A+ Forum show
1985 5150 Forum,I liked Sammy solo ALOT and saw Red tour but was pissed he was in Daves family, I still loved Ed and partyed hard and fucked with gender challenged Spam Straps and had a good time hearing that guitar, it was still dialed in. Musically it was honestly an A, the show and vocals C+
1998 DLR Skyscraper Forum w/poison KILLER show and vocals A+
next night at Irvine Meadows, slightly scaled back show, carried surfboard, stationary box ring, partied hard overall strong A
DID NOT go to OU812 was too pissed.
ALAE DLR tour was cancelled and we had great tix for Irvine this was the first sign DLR wasnt shining strong into a new decade.
F.U.C.K. SVH Forum show was to hear Ed and some VH after Jonesin w/o DLR show. It had to be re-scheduled after Rodney King/Riots. Perfect view from senate seats>ed was on but not old self and Sam was queer for Eddie. B- Music and D for Sam Show.
End of FUCK tour was at Pacific Amphitheater and I had had it with the Poodle Power Puss fest but my sister begged me to go and Vince Neil was doing his first solo show so i was in. THE SHOW SUCKED they were dying and had to be put down. Sammy put on a pair of PANTIES some ho threw on stage, and they has some chick sign Air Guitar for a pack of deaf people in attendance-YIKES!!!!!!! Vince kicked ASS- so it was a fun night, a good Motley like show and the realization the Brothers knew it was not a honeymoon anymore THAT WAS GOLDEN. a solid C
years would pass before Dave would play LA
Wife and I were givin premium seats fro Forum to see The unBalanced tour.........This is the last time Ive seen VH period in any form for following reasons; NO HEART by anyone of them-pure misery. Even Sam fans looked let down. STILL was S A D.....Ed 1/4 the normal solo time and it was labored, lame songs-wham bam in hamsterdam, you truely felt bad for them and ashamed at the same time left 2/3's into. Sam spouted that this was Ed's fist sober show in LA................................................ ........
Music D Show F
DLR comes home and plays HOB right after OJ went ape. We went by the condo before the show it was a strange time in music, culture and life in general BUT I WAS GONNA SEE DAVE at HOB with my smokin hot wife----it was like old times and i was like a kid back in 80. Tickets were scarce it was a stuffy show with mostly industry suits and a stale feel was thick. My wife hadnt ever seen him and he was my Idol. The suits seemed like they were there to decide whether Dave would go forward or stagnate. Whatever the motives Dave was affected equally gaurded with a stiff show.....Bummed. Was sitting with Jim Ladd and D ODonohue the old mtV vj and we all had chagrin for him. Not so bad to say it sucked but looking back it did- A big letdown for my King, my wife didnt say a thing ALL BAD!!!!!!! D-
Two days later at Del Mar Fair was a free show and he FUCKIN KICKED MOFUCKIN ASS!!!!!! What a releif compared to HOB but it was a B not A
Years passed again before live shows.....
DLR Band came out and that day I was pimpin it like it was EEAS i loved it and the people I played it for did to.....
This was a true window of opportunity for Dave but the Indie label and no marketing efforts AT ALL made this his worst post VH move since SAMnDAVE tour. No LA show for this so it was SanDiego Opening for Bad Company. Scored 1st row Bart Walsh and the guys TORE IT UP.
The last real relevance of Daves Backstage being a merit badge, think Sarge went to one on the tour. Left 2 songs into BadCo to Butter my babes toast. Solid A show
skipped VH111 for obvious reasons
no Sam And Dave for me nor 2004 VH debacle-my sisters think they were one up on me with meet and greet at forum and tried to piss me off with laminate-i threw it in the trash at a family get together launching into a CVH speach.
Last show was May 05 HOB San Diego and Dave had only played one other show but brought afriend who hadnt seen him and Dave was very rusty. Dont get me wrong 10x's better than HOB years before just not shining like a diamond Dave and reality set in its always gonna be a different pace, pitch and presence that will be mostly memories. C
I cant wait to see him next month in Morongo and hell be warmed up half way through summer so its gonna rock hard I CANT WAIT AGAIN
if its an honest B show its as good as it gets and a perfect night.
oh yea I saw a show in ballys Vegas and had it all on Hi8 when Big Ed walked me out in the middle of the show confiscating a miserable ticket.
