I can't imagine that I'm the only one who feel this way.

But I recognize that voice from my childhood. And to watch him sing a song that I remember from my childhood was very nice.

See, I didn't come along until 1970 and the only place I'd get exposed to Van Halen before 1984 was via my one cousin that worshipped Eddie. I didn't even get to place a face with the voice until 1984 and by then it had something I didn't particularly like in it...the synthesizer.

So I've only seen music videos from the 84 album and then whatever videos I could find on the internet. With my first home pc not happening until I was 29 years old. All this because they didn't circulate the old stuff on video and I had limited exposure to MTV until 1986 when we could afford to get cable tv.

This is partially also because the Van Halen brothers won't release the old stuff on video footage. So I can't even OWN a big portion of the band that I came to love. And you just can't get a feel for it on a grainy recording 1" X 1" on a web site.

But hearing Dave sing that right then...meant a lot to me. Say what you will about his vocal abilities today but he's still got "it". The charisma, the personality to the song, and the voice is still there. It's him. I really appreciate it that he's still singing, and kept himself in FATASTIC shape over the years.

Sadly though, there's only one sound I recognize from my youth, and that's the instrument of Dave's vocals. I honestly think Eddie is through ya'll. I honestly think that he's going to settle in and try to make Wolfgang the next Van Halen icon. I honestly think we've seen the last of the original Van Halen.
