Is there still enough fuel in DLR's tank to make one more masterpiece album with or without Van Halen... with platinum or above sales?
Can Dave still make a commercial comeback at age 51?

If its with Van Halen, thats a platnium album guranteed. The name Van Halen W/DLR is a platnium reocrd guranteed.
Sadly though, everytime He does make a Fucking great album like DLR Band, The Media ignores it, Thus it does not sell well. He can make a great record without VH, But The media will refuse to acknowledge it, and Just start crap about him.Still waiting for a relevant Browns Team -
Platinum with VH (basing that on what he said on his show about the demo tracks he has plus the reunion factor) Eddie uses his damn sustainer too much though and the songs would really have to be strong.
not platinum without them but still a rockin album.Comment

The Media Suits will try to make him some scapegoat and mock him at being an old 80's hair band Frontman trying to reinvent himself and tear his musical efforts to shreds..... I can only chalk it up to some heavy duty envy the Suits (who are probably Dave's age or older) have against Dave .... all due to GREEN ENVY.
Dave has now accomplished the fact that he really needs neither:

I've learned by being a fan of Dave's...NEVER UNDERESTIMATE!
Dave can do whatever he wants and guess what? I'll probably like it. The guy just strikes a chord with my ear and my funny bone. The guy mixes music with humor better than anybody and his self-effacing style...the guy oozes ROCKSTAR!
If Dave wants to mount a "comeback" with a platinum release, then he will but in my mind...he's never gone anywhere to merit a "comeback"...he's THE best frontman EVER!

He can do it with a reunited VH.
Not on his own.
Even Dave believes that.
Remember when he said that no one is interested in himself, Ed, Al or Mike doing their side projects or solo work --- all they want is full-on CVH (as far as being commercially successful again).=V V=

It's unfortunate, but Dave could put out a kickass rocking
new disc with the DLR Band, and it would be, on the most part,
ignored. I believe it would get the odd decent review from
a critic who doesn't have his/her head up their ass, but overall,
because it's Dave, it's doomed before it is released.
With Ed, Al, and smurf? There is a better chance on first day
sales alone. But if Ed is still writing like shit (VH lll - BOBW ll),
don't be so sure.Comment

If Roth hooks up with Van Halen, the venture will have a high degree of music press, do great business moving tickets, and they'd probably sell a couple millions CDs if they came out with a new, full-length album. All of that sounds reasonable/feasible to me.
Solo...well...
What did the DLR Band do? 50,000, or thereabouts?
Diamond Dave, maybe 20,000 is what I heard.
Don't really think Van Strummin' was a move in the right direction, either, if sales are what Dave is looking for...
He's only gonna sell so much going the indie route. Has less to do with how "good" the music is - distribution and advertising. That's the ticket.
How many people bought Eat 'Em And Smile? A few million? And that was back when he was at his zenith in terms of popularity. Now, how many of those are even AWARE that Dave put out the DLR Band and Diamond Dave albums?
Dave's got a relatively small base of people scattered around the country who will keep turning out to see him live no matter what - probably about the same amount of people who would also by a new Roth CD, "sight unheard" as it were.
Van Hagar could do another tour, and probably fill 5,000 seat halls without much problem(probably by the same chowderheads turning out to see Posion and Cinderella this summer), but as far as the recording entity currently known as Van Halen goes, without Dave the band are now pretty much DOA. They just aren't gonna sell many records without Roth fronting them anymore. Van Halen 3 and BOBW put the kibosh on that. Deservedly so, IMO.
Don't know about needing each other, but Roth and Van Halen could sure stand to be in each other's company right about now.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

Yes. Dave could do it solo, but it would require a MAJOR comeback. He'd need to be seen as "cool" again. It's highly unlikely but it is possible, I suppose.
He'd need a major label to heavily push a strong single. Platinum would be pushing it a bit, but if a major label got behind him and really advertised heavily, Dave could probably move quite a few units with people who loved Van Halen years ago but haven't heard much of VH or Dave for years. They'd buy it kinda based on, "Hey, Dave has a new album out! I'd dig hearing him again..."
With a CVH reunion, platinum is just about guaranteed.Waylon Jennings: 1937-2002. RIP, Hoss!Comment

Roth is done.
and so is Eddie Van Halen.
They are old.
They waited too long to reform.
80's are over. Nobody would really give a shit.
Oldies act written all over it.
Platinum ? In their dreams or pulling out some Major label trick, maybe. Not in reality, though.http://images.usatoday.com/life/_pho...07/11/imus.jpg
