Sammy Quotes and other interesting tidbits

Sammy Quotes and other interesting tidbits.............

    "We're not a greatest-hits kind of band,"

"It was one thing for me to do some of the old songs," he said. "But if they try to do my songs, that will be a joke. I might send my produce guy. If {Roth} sings one of my songs, he deserves to get a tomato thrown at him."

``I would be very unhappy if I had to get back and look these guys in the eye because it'd probably get physically violent,''

``A band has a greatest-hits album when they have nowhere else to go,'' he adds.

Hagar said fan reaction in the band's online bulletin board has been one of outrage.

"We spent 11 years developing a whole new audience for this band," he said, "telling everybody what a bad guy this Roth was. It has to be a big disappointment for the `Van Hagar fans."

Hagar said he's already received offers from major bands looking for vocalists.

Hagar said that while he harbored no ill will toward Roth, he thought the other members considered his predecessor to be Public Enemy No. 1.

"The three of the guys in the band hated him more than anyone on the planet. They wouldn't even talk to the guy. If anyone brought up the name, they would freak out," Hagar said in an interview.

He said he also was dead-set against the group making a greatest hits album, but learned the others had been secretly recording with Roth.

"A band has a greatest hits album when they have nowhere else to go," he said. "Can you name one band in their heyday that's done a greatest hits record?"

“the Balance tour only drew 7,400 to St. Petersburg's ThunderDome”

“Jeff Berlin says he was approached by Eddie to join the band in 1983, but Roth vetoed on the grounds that the jazz bassist couldn't look or act the part of the rocker.”

Hagar is just delusional if he thinks a classic Halen lineup would even bother doing Van Hagar songs. Like anyone would even want to hear Dave sing that shit anyway, regardless of if he has the vocal range to do it.

They spent 11 years watching their sales dwindle from 5150 selling half of what 1984 did to less than 3 million for Balance. Sam Halen remind me of Spinal Tap in that they were just becoming much more selective about their audience.

Yeah, funny how several years of putting out solo albums that don't even go gold and playing the same club circuit he chided Roth for doing changed Hagar's attitude about doing a greatest hits tour.

Nail on the head, squarely, solidly.

Asking Dave to sing Hagar songs is:

Like asking Paul McCartney to sing Monkeys songs.

Like asking Robert Plant to sing Warrant songs.

Like asking Mick Jagger to sing Culture Club songs.

              "We're not a greatest-hits kind of band,"
That's marginally true, Sam. None of your hits were really all that great.

"It was one thing for me to do some of the old songs," he said. "But if they try to do my songs, that will be a joke. I might send my produce guy. If {Roth} sings one of my songs, he deserves to get a tomato thrown at him."
DLR would probably agree with that 100%.

``I would be very unhappy if I had to get back and look these guys in the eye because it'd probably get physically violent,''
Nothing more intimidating than a pissed off middle aged midget in canary yellow capri pants

``A band has a greatest-hits album when they have nowhere else to go,'' he adds.
              I agree, Sam.

Hagar said he's already received offers from major bands looking for vocalists.
"Toto is on line one, Mr Hagar"

"Can you name one band in their heyday that's done a greatest hits record?"
What does this tell you, Sam?
