First post, great site,DLR Van Halen Rules!!!!Check out about the first couple of minutes of "DLR LIVE 2002 - Sam&DaveTour - YouTube x3" post (Hot for Teacher),!I noticed in it there is some 8 mll film of David lee Roth walking on stage on the first tour in 1978,and if I am not mistaken it seems to be from the "Day at the Green".Always loved the pictures from that outdoor show, and always wondered if anybody filmed that show. What is cool is that it is shot from the stage looking out!The only other film from 78 that I have seen is the Fresno boot that is bad quality but awesome Van Halen!!!!Check it out and see what you think????
Did you guys miss it?????????

Yeah,Cato that was it!!!Whats odd though is that it looks like the same picture from the inside cover of the first Van Halen US tour program and I always thought that the big Van Halen sign in the audience was airbrushed in,but maybe not.It just cool to see any 78 VH footage! The bad quailty boot I was talking about is the same one that has the Eddie Van Halen solo that is going around on this site and you tube and when I bought mine it had the show from 78 and 79(the first night of the second world tour)and it said both the shows were from Fresno.Thought someone might clean the 78 show up and post it on youtube as it is a great show although bad quailty.I've been watching this site for years now and it is just great!Have allot of respect for you guys,DLR and early DLR Van Halen. Here is a little story!I was one of the lucky ones, grew up in New Olreans, went to look for Led Zeppelin bootlegs at a little record store called Lenny's in New Orleans. The record store use to have a big bootleg selection, while I was looking for the Zep boots, the store owner put on "Running with the Devil"and my friends and I looked at each other and smiled and said who the hell is that?I remember the owner saying that it is Van Halen the same band that has "You Really got me" on the radio.Well we bought the "8 track of the first album right then and there and didn't stop playing it untill we broke it.The best thing was that a week later heard that Van Halen was coming to New Orleans on the radio, and my friends and I went out and bought tickets for the show at the Wharehouse in New Orleans on 4/16/78.By the time the show came around a week later I knew the whole first album by heart.I remember being just a little late for the show and waiting in line and hearing the first couple of cords of "On Fire",anyway was able to walk right up to the stage and watch the rest of the show in total shock at what I was seeing before me.Just the way they looked, there awesome sound, great background vocals and hearing most of the first album live with Eddies Brown sound in a little concert place was what hooked me for the rest of my life on DLR Van Halen!!!I think they opend up for Ronnie Montrose and Journey and I wasn't even the slight bit interested in seeing those to acts after seeing Van Halen.Van Halen were so great that I remember thinking these guys are going to be the next Led Zeppelin!!!!!!By that meaning how big Zeppelin was at that time.I remember wanting to hear Jamie's Crying but they didn't play that, but other than that almost all of the first album sounded great.I remember sitting back and looking at Eddie when he was so young and thinking how and the heck did he come up with that sound as his guitar sound was the best I had ever heard, and I remember looking at DLR and thinking this band is just perfect.Still to this day Van Halens first album is the best album of all time for me and every time I listen to it,it brings me back to those childhood days in New Olreans.Within weeks of buying the 1st Van Halen album I was already laying the foundation of being a life long DLR Van Halen Fan and then 6 months later luck struck again.AT 3 in the morning at a little bar in New Olreans a friend of my walks into the bar and and says guess what I got.We all looked at him and he pulls out concert tickets and it says Black Sabbath with special guess Van Halen 11/14 78?Needless to say we left the bar right then and there to find concert tickets which is another story in itself!!!More on that story later!!!!Last edited by saintbarry; 09-13-2006, 11:24 AM.Comment
