"It's just not an option for me to go and watch some other band — who are only performing because they have some new record coming out — do our music," Roth said. "I have nothing against Velvet Revolver — I'm not familiar with their music — but that was my 3 minutes and 22 seconds up there."

I blame him for the demise of Van Halen. He was out rimming Sammy as he obviously shared a fat munchkin affinity with him. Now the final
Van Halen we get will be The Waborelli Caborita Sam and Mikey show...
He can get fucked. I used to like the fucker .... Not anymore.
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow ! Love ya Mary Frances!
Edit: Fucking accidental double-post bullshit. Why the fuck can't I delete this post? I check the box, I click on 'delete' and it essentially tells me to go fuck myself, because apparently I can edit but not delete my own fucking posts, for some reason.

(Off to go fuck himself, since it seems like the only viable option at this point.)
Originally posted by Sgt Schultz Funny that Edward was trying to replace him as early as 1983 but Dave intervened and was against it - yet now he apparently hates Dave. Go figure.
Yeah because he knows he has NO career prospects outside of Van Halen, so he just spouts the company line. That and the already mentioned "butt buddy" angle.
I'm sure Michael has his opinions... but the choice as to whether to express them is his. I don't understand why people are so down in him... he's had a great gig since 1974, part of music history and has his own legacy.
Frankly the way Mike has stayed outta some of the soap-operas with the band is admirable. The guy does his job, holds up the bottomend musically that enables Ed and the singer to work from a solid palet.
From a musician's perspective guys like Michael are the best to work with. They are solid, you can count on them and they aren't drama queens. Folks like Dave, Sam, Ed etc... are a bitch to work with day in and day out... sure it's magic during the show but beyond that they're a pain in the ass... such is the price for working with highly creative artists though... comes with the territory.

First time I have ever told anyone since it happened in 1983. I met Michael in 1983 at a concert where he came out into the audience posing as security while the warm up band was playing. Was asking me if I had smelled any marijuana around there etc. Took me a few minutes to decide if he was trying to bust me, or just wanted to get high. I was just getting ready to produce a joint when the next thing I know he was passing them out all over the place. It was a great time while it lasted.
Michael is one of those amazing people who is happy with life, just like it is. He has been successful from early on, secure in his chosen career, and in a relationship with his childhood sweetheart his whole life. Money and spare time to enhoy it...He has nothing to prove to anyone. It is my thoughts that he is one of the luckiest mo fos I can think of.
People like Michael often get stuck with the dirty work because they are they are the only with the balls to do it without whining all day long. It really sucks that he has to get caught up in all the shit that goes on between those less secure than himself. Tough job being the glue to hold the pieces of the puzzle together. Sucks trying to keep the peace all the time.

MA has had plenty of shit to say about Roth through the years, so I don't buy him staying out of the soap opera by choice so much as being ignored by default.
Have read all those stories about EVH sounding out other bass players to replace MA as well, and Ed recording a lot of bass on VH albums. Not even sure what to believe about all that. Dave said Ed was looking to dump MA in 1996, and Roth's got no reason to lie about it.
But he had his role in VH. His backing vocals meshed well with Dave's, and it would have been interesting to hear him do backing vocals on some of Dave's solo stuff. Prefer his bass style to Sheehan, who was really just wanking when you come right down to it (the guy had a fucking tremolo bar on his bass for christsakes! Frustrated ex-guitarist or what?).
A little less disposable than Alex as far as the contribution made to classic VH, but not as essential as Roth or EVH by any stretch.

Mike is a neurtral party. He has to be. If he spoke out I'm sure Ed would get pissed and kick him out. Ed already thought about doing that and replacing him with Sheehan. Mike lays low and that's what he'll continue to do.
