I've met Michael Anthony as sevral of us have. He's the nicest guy you could meet and he always seemed to be the one in Van Halen who genuinely seemed to make sure fans who met the band were having a good time and didn't feel blown off. Maybe that's because Mike was a fan of Van Halen himself.

Anyways, hearing EVH slag the guy on Howard Stern and reading how the VH brothers screwed the guy out of pay and rights to the VH franchise just to play on tour after MA kissed their ass for years shows loyalty to assholes and being nice gets you very little in this world.

Now Mike is stuck with Sammy. What's worse than that?

Everyone hates a gimp; especially a nice one. Unlike Alex, Mike did not have a famouse brother to attach to.

First off, his name is BASS PLAYER. He need not be called by his actual name -- which is actually not even his actual name!

I don't think Bass Player is that nice of a guy. Smiling, shaking hands, and inviting nerdy, starstruck fans (sorry but I've seen the photos) to join him at his favorite Mexican restaurant doesn't make up for DECADES of towing the company line. He slagged Dave when asked to. He slagged his boyfriend Sammy when asked to. Other than an occasional crumb, he kept the fans in the dark for years just like the Sisters. Bass Player did all this for a paycheck. Everyone's compromised their principles at one point or another, and every man has had to deal with an asshole boss at one point or another and suck it up, but Bass Player did it for DECADES. Don't sell yourself short, people -- 99% of us would tell an asshole boss to FUCK OFF long before that. Bass Player is a girl. The only time he stopped being a lap-dog was when the cash stopped flowing out of the Van Halen faucet. So spare me that nice-guy shit. I'll concede that Bass Player is the least disgusting member of Van Hagar on a personal level . . . but that's not saying much.

Nor do I think Bass Player is a loser. As someone above said, he won pretty damn big for a chubby dude who lacks extraordinary talent.

Weighing in on the subject, I don't think Mike really would care that much. Van Halen monies have him and his family taken care of for the rest of their natural lives, I'm sure. He doesn't seem to dislike playing with Sammy Hagar either, so now he has more time to focus on it and less time to deal with the Alex/Edward Van Halen stress.

Sounds like a pretty winning situation to me, honestly. And in a year or two, when Ed and Al wake up and realize they need some more money, they'll call Dave and Mike will come back gladly enough, all past transgressions forgotten, so on and so forth.
