A friend of mine is a subscriber to Michael Ninn's porn site (don't ask). He knows I'm a big VH fan. I was at his house this evening drinking and watching the Bears pull off a majorly, majorly harsh come-from-behind win over the Cardinals. During half time, he says "Oh hey, I've got some cool footage of Eddie Van Halen."
I hate that bastard Eddie V., but yeah I bite. So what do you know, he goes to MichaelNinn.com and there is some footage there for "members only" that I haven't seen before. Two tunes -- Ed doing "Rebel Yell," and "Jump," with the cover band he hired to play the party.
"Rebel Yell" was pretty cool; good energy and the lead singer pulled it off well. Ed sounded fine.
"Jump" sucked ass. The lead singer, whoever he is, was trying to be Dave and fell way short. Musically, it sounded okay. But then it got to the solo . . . . Ed fucked it up, COMPLETELY. I'm sure a VHLinker who would see it would say he was "improvising." Nope. You could tell he was trying to play it the way it sounds on record and just couldn't remember it, or couldn't pull it off technically. At multiple points, you could tell he was stumbling, trying to figure out what to do next. What a loser! And of course, he was smoking the whole way through -- since cigarettes don't cause cancer, metal guitar picks do!!!
Anyway, the Michael Ninn site says that this is just raw camera footage, and he's working on putting together something more special from that night.
