The jelouse drunks fired Dave or Dave just told them to fuck off. Who knows.
By the end of the 84 tour,I think they were a couple 8-balls away from becoming spinal tap.It was a relatively short tour ending in Sep. compared w/previous years and it WAS their biggest album-Dave wanted to strike while the iron was still hot;either tour some more or get another album out there. So while he's on vacation, someone suggests he redo California Girls-Crazy from the Heat gets made and the sisters shit themselves over a solo project.(Although Ed did some side stuff too,Starfleet Project and the Gloved One's solo)They get pissed at each other and never had the foresight to realize patience would have paid off later on.Dave was pretty much locked out of VH,I dont belive he actually ever really wanted to quit.I do think the sisters wanted him out.You don't leave your singer at the front gate while you're secretly working on new material you know he wont like.
Dave says "they wouldn't get off their butts and make a record."
Then Ed says about sam 11 years later;"bottom line, his work ethic sucked."Funny motherfucker ,that Ed.

She hates the music but wants to know where this wildman is, so Yoko hops the first thing smoking to their show in Louisiana and her celebrity status gets her backstage. She finds Dave's dressing room, and Dave's already neck deep in ass and Dave says,"getthafuckouttahere!"
Rejected, she glances at the 8-track and finds her next choice.

I think Terry hit it bang on. Interview from Sweden 84, has Dave telling the interviewer how he wanted a new album while the iron was hot and Eddie and Alex wanted to wait a while, also how Eddie thought they could have another album in a year and Dave goes off on another year, the last one took 3 months?. Also the VH boys wanted to play stadiums and big shows only because they had been touring for so long it was now time to relax. As far as the possible next tour following 1984, I'll quote Dave from that interview, 6 month tour, I'm only getting to the right weight after 6 months.

Let's see...to add to what TERRY said...and what I've gleaned pver the years....

Noel Monk , VAN HALEN's manager, quit.

EVH built 5150 so he would nolonger have to collaberate with DAVE on the music. Remember, when DAVE did the 2 new tunes in '96...it was "Here's the music...SING." EVH nolonger wanted to have ANYBODY change his "musical vision"...no DAVE, No TED, no MIKE, No DON LANDEE........

DAVE took a HIATUS from VAN HALEN...the sisters didn't want to work...so he'd do the movie & soundtrack during the down time....

To SPITE DAVE...the sisters went out and hired the one singer DAVE had been belittling in the press for years.......you got it...SPAMMY HAGAR...

Spammy and Eddie got together because Eddie's Lamborghini dealer told either spammy or eddie to give the other a call from what I read somewhere.

Spammy Hagar was in that band for two reasons: DAVE thought Spammy sucked......and Spammy hated DAVE.....it was done as a big FU to DAVE...real mature people those von Halen sisters

No dis taken...I'm sayin' I've heard & read that story a million times...and now think it's typical EVH bullshit.....

Spammy Hagar was no "split decision"...no "hand of fate"...it was a calculated FUCK YOU to DAVID LEE ROTH.....

                            and...Spam fit EVH's new JOURNEY-like music........

Another story I heard was Warner Bros always wanted spammy to sing for VH, right from 1978

I remember EVH & SHEMP saying that...back around the time of 5150.......

again...DAVE was the focal point of the band when they got signed....TEMPLEMAN called ROTH the most convincing Frontman since "THE LIZARD KING"....Mr. MOJO RISIN

                                again...revisonist history by the sisters.....

I also think DAVE had a greater financial stake in the band...that his DAD bankrolled VAN HALEN right out of the gate...which is why DAVE took the 1984 stage with him when he left......
