If we get Wolf, at least he is driving his pop in the right direction musicly, (assuming what was printed is true)
Hey LoungeMachine, I often see you refer to Eddie as spEDCO or spED.
It's funny but I was curious if you came up w/ dat & if there's a deeper meaning or...

From the Baltimore Sun As Hall of Fame beckons, Van Halen tour implodes
By Geoff Boucher
February 25, 2007
For Van Halen, the stars seemed aligned for a triumphant 2007. Next month, the group will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the plan was to follow that with a summer reunion tour that would feature David Lee Roth back at the mike for the first time since the Reagan years.
But, once again, the backstage soap opera of Van Halen is the story of the day.
The Van Halen tour has been "shut down," according to a top official at Live Nation, the huge concert promoter that finally surrendered in the face of the chaos surrounding guitar hero Eddie Van Halen. Roth, meanwhile, says he is unsure whether the mercurial guitarist will even travel to New York for the Hall of Fame induction March 12.
"We have fragile politics in Van Halen, please accept that as a partial answer," Roth said. "But I don't know if the Van Halens are going to go. ... I hope they do, but right now, I just don't know. Hope springs eternal."
Eddie Van Halen declined interviews through his publicist and girlfriend, Janie Liszewski. Conversations with the business team behind the tour paint a picture of a rock star who is somewhere between Axl Rose and Michael Jackson on the music-industry scale of eccentric recluses. The result is that the Van Halen venture imploded before takeoff, even as the Police, the Eagles and Genesis have stopped feuding among themselves and are efficiently gearing up for lucrative reunion tours.
"I cannot tell you how frustrating and completely nuts this has been," one key business figure in the tour said while asking not to be identified on the outside chance that some portion of the reunion might be salvaged. "Right now, I have to say, I don't see that happening."
It's a disheartening situation for the Van Halen fans who long to see Roth back on stage with the iconic metal band. Among those devoted fans is Wolfgang Van Halen, the 15-year-old son of Eddie and, according to Roth, the driving force behind the reunion.
Wolfgang, a precocious musician, was "the maestro" at the reconstituted band's lone rehearsal, picking the set list and using his iPod to remind his father of the nuances of his solos on the old albums. Wolfgang was in fact tapped by his father to play bass on the tour, replacing founding member Michael Anthony, a topic of some sensitivity considering the child's age and Anthony's status as one of rock's best back-up singers and most relentlessly cheerful presences.
Eddie Van Halen remains, by all accounts, a truly gifted guitarist and rock auteur, but the decision to jettison Anthony in favor of a teenager may have been the first sign that the new enterprise was guided by creaky logic. Still, it's been fascinating to watch, and all eyes will be on the Hall of Fame banquet to see who shows up, who plays and how Roth interacts with Sammy Hagar, the man who replaced him as lead singer in 1985 and who will be inducted as an equal.
Van Halen was a monster of rock and, for a time in the 1980s, one of the biggest bands in the world. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen albums have shipped more than 56.5 million copies to stores, a total that puts them ahead of the career totals posted by U2, Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Prince.
Roth said that he and Anthony will be in New York for the Hall of Fame, as will Hagar, the affable "red rocker."
Last month, Hagar publicly chided Eddie Van Halen for taking his son on tour. He also added that "the guy is a genius, but he's just out there and it's hard for people around him."
"I'm going to put some words in Ed's mouth," Roth said. "Whatever explanation he may give about having his son in the band, I'm going to superimpose: He wants to play with his kid while he's still at the top of his game and able to."
This article spells out pretty much why the tour is postponed. because Eddie is in no shape to tour. And No one will go ahead until Eddie has cleaned up. they dont want a 2004 fiasco again or even worse this time if Ed cant even remember his solos!
the dixie sluts can write a good song. when I watched the awards I was amazed how bad the state of music is today. for the dixie sluts to rule with those shitty songs ....shows how bad music is today. thats the best? how sad for us!!!
I havent heard anything worth while since the grunge era and that got old fast. infact, has anyone told radio stations that that era is over and is out of place on the radio ? atleast it is better than whats available today.
but seriously....dixie sluts can write a good song ? that too funny!!!
as for music video stations, they have been around forever. the reason why music isnt mysterious and the rock star is touchable today is because the music is less than mediocre and nothing today has a decent hook. forgettable music doesnt catch the attention of the public. all the music today sounds the same, is boring and very forgettable.
its been a long time since I heard memorable music. I can only dream of the day some young kids bring back rock music and the rock star or..... an old band writes another great album. its not looking like the young kids today can bring it.
seriously..... doesnt any of the young kids today think rap has run its course by now ? when metal..or pop metal ran its course everyone begged for a change. why does rap still rule ?
I believe if the original VHband got back together they could single handedly bring back rock. I still think these guys could write a great great album.
I guess the music industry like the state of music and not making any money. the 70's and 80's alot of money was being made. today, I dont see that. but again, there arent any real rock bands out there anyway. how does something great like a guitar solo get phased out ? that still amazes me.
Originally posted by rocknrolldork I agree but...... This is 2007 and live shows, even big classic reunions, are not making the kind of money they would have 10 - 15 years ago. People don't have to go to the show to see the smoke and mirrors of rock n roll anymore. They can see it and through it all on mtv, vh1 and especially the interthing. Man youtube has tons of classic rockers backstage and how to stuff of live shows. There are so many videos and especially soooo many bands out there now. Anyone can make music. Why goto the show when you can download or stream it for free? I don't think that way but a lot of people do. You can get it at home without paying some fucked up ticket price, overpriced food and parking in a gravel lot and you can drink much cheaper at home.
To me it's like this.......... Whether you were/are a Kiss fan or not, if you are in your mid-thirties or over you probably remember when Kiss was really cool. It was because they were mysterious. You didn't know who was really under that makeup. They bought all the shots of themselves w/o makeup. Of course the pop culture bullshit wasn't what it is now but still. Don't forget Alice Cooper. I can hear my buddies telling me about crazy Alice shit still. "man he drinks a cup full of the audiences spit." "HE CUT OFF HIS HEAD DUDE!" In the now everyone knows how the tricks are done or they can legitimately catch it all on video, digital or not.
Tours are a big risk for promoters anymore. The Dixie Chicks, even though I'm not a fan, can write a solid song and are great musicians. They won a bunch of Grammy's but had to cancel several dates on their tour due to lack of ticket sales.
VH's last 2 tours bombed and cost Live Nation a ton of money. When was the last time Dave played in the U.S. to 20,000 people? Plus the drama of Ed, his alcoholism/drug addiction and mood swings. I can totally understand why Live Nation would want to say fuck that shit.
Sorry about the long ass post.
"I've been rich and I've been poor....rich is better, totally better"
The problem is that theres No real rockstars anymore. look at van halen, you had the guitar god on guitar busting out amazing solos. and a dynamic frontman in david lee roth. It was about having fun, and being a rockstar..
Nowadays(and starting with grunge IMO even though its better than the crap we have today) Its all about being depresed and "oh poor me". everything has to be so serious.
Not to mention the level of musicianship has gone down.
