It doesn't matter if Dave made Ed or Ed made Dave -- the simple fact is, you never hear a talented instrumental guitarist like Jeff Beck on the radio with any consistentsy. Skilled, Eddie would have been, but Dave made those songs memorable and classic rock station favorites. I've yet to hear any Van Hagar on the radio.

Correction, I did -- that being the country hit "It's About Time." The station attempted to redeem itself by playing "Jamie's Crying," probably soon after realizing their horrible mistake.

Some have said it, but the fact is, both Ed and Dave made VH. Without ed's spectular guitar playing, Van Halen would never have been discovered. Without Dave's showmen ship and marketing know how did VH soar in popularity. It's a mutual thing.

Classic VH worked because of the chemistry between Dave and Ed plain and simple. Both still would have acheived success without the other but not to the heights reached together. They had the intangible "it" factor together, like great duo's before ; Mick Jagger and Keith Richards , John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Steve Tyler and Joe Perry and even Axl and Slash. It was the chemistry between the two.
As for Vai, what's up with hatred there? It was an amicable split both still speak highly of the other and have stated they would work together again given the right opportunity. They were going in different directions musically and parted ways.
