Seems to me that Eddie was 'functioning' to a point, but promoters/investors weren't convinced so they insisted on either rehab, or certain contractual changes to cover themselves.

Then Eddie lost it.

I'm behind this 100%. I can honestly say the news of Ed entering rehab made me feel just as excited as I was when I heard Dave was back rehearsing with the band, seeing the new band photo, etc. To me this just solidifies that the tour will indeed happen, but just a little later. This thread has gotten so long and I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I've read where once and addict enters rehab and kicks his addiction, he merely trades it for something else. My hope is that Ed will kick the booze and drug addiction and become addicted to making music again. I also hope Dave visits Ed in rehab a whole fucking lot more than Sammy does. Sammy will see this as an opportunity to try to weasel his way back in and I hope the clarity will make Ed realize that Sammy is merely a Tequila peddling opportunist who doesn't give a fuck about the spirit of Van Halen.
