Maybe Dave is part of the problem

Do you think that perhaps Dave is part of the reason Van Halen hasn't reunited?

Perhaps Dave is asking for half of the money the tour makes. Or maybe he is making other extreme demands.

Everyone here blames Ed for the lack of a Van Halen reunion, but perhaps Dave is part of the problem too.

I have no inside information, I am just speculating.

    Thoughts?

I am sure Dave is part of the "problem", in a way which he actually pretended the music to be good, not that subpar shit they're putting out like the new "tune", "it's about time"... Yeah, right. It's about time Eddie and his sister retire.

That's a good question! I have been bashing the sisters and bass player smurf as much as anybody...but when you really look at it
objectively, I think if Dave and the sisters and doughboy REALLY ALL
MADE A SERIOUS EFFORT TO GET ALONG they could accomplish something truly magical and make themselves a ton of money in the
      process.

Maybe Dave's attitude and approach haven't changed, whereas Ed and Al have gotten used to calling the shots since Roth left.

In 1996, Roth said if Van Halen were to tour he was expecting the revenue split to be four ways, "same as [it] always [had been]".

Think it comes down to Roth being aware of what the classic material means to a lot of people, and what the name Van Halen meant to those same people. Almost seems like Ed and Al prefer to pretend that era didn't exist.

If they get back together tho, they achieve their superstar status again.
When you think of Van Halen you think of David Lee Roth.

I've been thinking about that for a while now Terry. I seriously doubt Dave would return for peanuts.......he would expect it to be a four way split IMO. Who knows though....

I can't speak on behalf of other Roth fans on this site, but I can guarantee you that there are several fans on this site that agree with me when I say that I'm not a Dave fan blindly. I happen to agree with his attitude, several philosophies on life, lyrics and humour. That being said, I don't feel that the fact that the Roth/Halen reunion hasn't properly manifested is Dave's fault, at all. I've heard both sides of the arguments, I've heard both sides of the music, and I still maintain that it's the VH Bros. fault, NOT Dave's.

Sure, but does anyone REALLY know what happened with the last couple of aborted attempts to work together? Who split, who got kicked out? I love Dave...but do we have any solid facts on what really went down with the most recent attempts?

When Kiss reunited with Ace and Peter, I believe that Ace and Peter were salaried employees and did not share in the profits. Gene and Paul "own" the Kiss name and felt no obligation to share profits at all, let alone equally four ways.

Perhaps the real reason Van Halen has not reunited is that either Ed wants to make Dave a salaried employee that does not share in profits (since Ed and Al "own" the Van Halen name) or because Dave wants more than 25% of the profits.

I am sure that in the end it comes down to not being able to make a business deal/agreement. I don't think it is necessarily an issue of Ed and Al not liking Dave or vice versa.

Good point. Maybe Dave is demanding the back royalties they owe him.

I bet that is a big part of it. Even if they wanted to give him the back royalties, whose pocket would it come out of? Not Ed's. And WB probably wouldn't do it either. It would have to come out of tour proceeds.

You are all speculating. Ed has said that he will never work with David Lee Roth again, several times. Why do you keep on torturing yourselves?

Ed has and does say a lot of sh*t in public (about both Dave and Sam) and totally different sh*t behind the scenes.

If he won't work with Dave, why has he kept trying over, and over, and over again... and just in the past few years.

Dave wants, expects and rightfully DESERVES his just rewards, period.

By the way, which songs will he be playing the tuba on during this tour?

                            Tool.

Further, I'd think it a fair bet that Sam was second choice this go around.

                              Wonder what his cut is?

And, people wonder why Mikey the contract bass player looks so pissed off in all the new pub pics...

Say what you want, but his backing vocals were a big part of the signature VH sound.
