As far as I was concerned this thing could not have been more of a cluster fuck.

But that sounds exactly like most other shit I've read here about some of Dave's work. Fans liking it no matter how bad it is. Like a bunch of turkey's, every time you clap they gobble.

Helps me understand why American Idol is popular.

Kinda felt that way myself reading the rave reviews of some when the Diamond Dave CD was released.

The thing with GnR for me all the way around was the strength of the band as a unit. Slash wasn't ever anything incredible as a guitarist...about the only thing he did that was distinctive was to play a Les Paul and not bother with the two-handed tapping thing at a time when everyone else had Charvels or Jacksons and was copping EVH's licks. Axl wasn't anything great as a singer, either...but when they all got together, they came up with some great tunes and made a hell of a noise together.

I didn't see the ATBL performance, but the jist of what everyone hates about it here is that it wasn't along the lines of what VH did with it, and there's no way it could be. Slash is not EVH and can't play in the EVH style, just as if VH were to cover VR's music, EVH is not going to play it the way Slash would, and Weiland isn't Roth plain and simple. Expecting him to perform other than his own style is unrealistic. Of course on the VR forum they loved it. It's a VR forum! VR was not the problem that night. Maybe they didn't do ATBL the way we'd all like to see it done, but someone had to play coz VH didn't show. That's the problem with that HOF event. VH should have been there, Dave, Al and MA (who was). EVH probably could have pulled it together for the night. He's a pro, a "hall of famer" now. He should have been there. I wonder if the Dave, Al and Ed will regret not being there for their big night?

I disagree. They should have tried to rip those songs a new ass0, out of repsect.

slash played that song horribly, i was like holy he's already screwin it up right at the beginning. Slash probably still thinks he's better than Eddie. It seemed like they were trying a new style with it but failed miserably. Then again the band should've been there to see their own induction. Do they forget 96 already? People were choked, thats why VH was largely unsuccesful after 96. Dave was gone, people were gone. Thats that. If Sammy VH tried a new album now it would barely pass Gold. If they can get back to what they said they did, a tour this summer with original lineup, people may forgive them even if it happens to be a fall tour or early next year. They do need a new album however, big time with dave. And no chemical brothers shit either dave!

When you think of Van Halen you think of David Lee Roth.
