I'd be embarrassed to win an MTV award.

If you look at the schedule now for MTV you will see that they don't really play music vids anymore. MTV is about breaking reality shows these days.

        Weird..................

Back in MTVs heyday, Roth conceptualized some of the better ones.

Dunno how meaningful it would be for MTV to give him an award these days, though.

Does anyone here even watch MTV anymore?

MTV nowadays caters to the 'hip-hop' audience, which in other words translates to a fucking joke....

Way too much time has passed for him to win such an award. MTV is irrelevant for someone like him. They don't remember his name and their audience is way removed.

I'll give Roth some props for those early videos, though if you're honest you'd have to admit he was losing his touch by the end of his mainstream video run.

If Roth gets a Vanguard award, so should Sam, for the "I Can't Drive 55" video. I think even Roth sheep should dig this one:

Some cool things in the video:

First, the story-telling and emotion in this video was really advanced for its time. It's funny too, very tongue-in-cheek (which all you Army guys say is what Roth is all about). It really shook up the MTV scene when it came out and made a lot of artists rethink what they were doing video-wise. That's the kind of thing that deserves a Vanguard award.

Second, in the beginning Sammy picks up his car from Claudio. Yes, CLAUDIO -- the Ferrari mechanic who introduced Ed and Sammy (who were both customers of his). Van Halen fans owe Claudio a lot.

Third, the judge is Jon Kalodner, the music exec. One of Roth's famous career screwups was turning down an offer from Kalodner to put "Slam Dunk" on the soundtrack to the movie Armageddon.

Fourth, the scene of Sammy being hauled in to court, flailing between two cops was LATER COPIED BY DAVE, HOOK LINE AND SINKER AND USED IN A VAN HALEN VIDEO. The one where Dave wore that sexy little towel. I don't think you get a Vanguard award for copying someone else's work (incidentally, Dave and Ed later went on to copy/steal a Sammy-written Van Hagar riff that became "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and wound up having to pay Sammy for it . . . unbelievable)

Can someone sticky this? Thanks in advance.

                              Van Squalen out.
I was living Van Halen -- classic Van Halen -- before most of you were itches in your mommy's crotch. What does that have to do with anything? Beats me. I just like to put it out there to try and make it seem like my opinion matters more than yours.
