Picked up a new issue! GUITAR LEGENDS! "The History of HARD ROCK" in big letters on the cover! Next to them a picture of ed ... with a guitar I have to admit I have never seen! Probably from that other era!

In big letters in the VH section!
"DAVID LEE ROTH COMPENSATED FOR HIS LOUSY VOICE BY BEING THE OUTSPOKEN LOUDMOUTH WHO LOOKED DIFFERENT!"~Alex Van Halen

Look who's talkin' about lookin' different! this is an old interview but this was the kind of grumbling that turned me away from those brothers I was there back then and ed threw the first stone! Carry on without them and I'd be happy!


The article did start out with:

"Van Halen had established itself as hard rocks new heroes, due in part to David lee Roth's vaudvillian theatrics!"

Then Al makes his often repeated comment that Roth could never sing a song all the way through when they were recording in the studio, which is why he had so many problems singing them all the way through when they played live.

Yet you hear in boot after boot where Roth is singing them all the way through...hell, listen to the Outta Love Again thread in Main taken from youtube.

In many ways, Al is more full of shit than his drunken brother.

Why rag on David Lee Roth and his Mouth??.. Intelligence tells you that these qualities are an asset to this band! It wouldn't be called "Legendary" otherwise.

I don't understand...........WHY would Al be talking trash about Dave when he is their saving grace?

Dave is a class act and it's his mouth I want to pay a ticket to hear.

I won't be biased with my opinion regarding Dave, as I'll say that I do think Al is a great drummer and Ed is the epitome of Rock Guitarist.

Nevertheless, They would have never been recognized in Hollywood (outside of Pasadena) if it hadn't of been for ROTH's Mouth, Voice and Charisma - Roth's package sells and spelled s-u-c-c-e-s-s and these guys know it.

No shit! Alex gets 25% of publishing from songwriting that he had nothing to do with it, and the half of those songs that still sell are the ones written by David Lee Roth and his so-called "lousy voice".

BTW, why did Alex never sing? Can we assume he's even worse than his brother?? Is that humanly possible?
