When did Dave actually start jumping?

I just pulled out 'Crazy From The Heat' book a few nights ago as was in need of a rebrush. Anyway, one thing that caught my attention was that Dave says he started jumping around on the Van Halen stage in 1979 in Oakland. However, in the photo section there's a pic of Dave doing his trademark jump off the drum-riser - as "Air Roth Opening Act 1978"? That picture certainly looks like 1978 given Dave's attire and the 1st album logo at the back.

Well, just a tiny descrepancy can anyone evaluate on?

i know that the Van Halen II album photo shoot he broke his foot, shooting the pictures of him doing the jump...i was at the first tour can't recall if he did it or not then...i was a little young and alot wasted

i have video from selland arena in fresno,*- ca, in 1978...first tour. haven't watch it in a while........but i think dave was jumping around a little bit on it......i will go view it again and then let you all know for sure.
