    Dave's voice and singing ability

like most rock singers as you get older your voice patters start to change and as a singer you will find it hard to sing the songs the way you used to when you were younger .
I have a very good copy of Dave's band on DVD shot professionally in 2002 at Camden NJ with multiple cameras this is in no way bashing Dave but if any of you have this show I'm sure you will all agree that Dave's singing is so off the mark he struggles to get threw most of the songs and i find him singing most parts in a totally different key just to get buy
The band is rocking the weakest link is Dave its sad but true its almost embarrassing to view.
the same things are true for several singers Joe elliot should retire Robert plant and yes rob halford now has trouble getting threw songs that he could belt out with ease.
I wondering if there are any vocal and voice lessons that could be done to help out with some of the struggles that take place during the songs because Dave is having big time trouble with trying to maintain the original vocal patters that he laid down in the past the problem is he sounds so bad on some of the stuff he should not even attempt doing those songs live i just wish and hope by the time VH with Dave gets out on the road that Dave will beable to gain some of his vocal ability back so it will complete the project most of you here agree that with all the recordings you have will agree that Dave is struggling with some of the songs whats your thoughts on this

Yes, David Lee Roth's voice sounds like shit now.

But it's fucking David Lee Roth.

Every singer fades out as they get older...

I'd still pay top dollar to see Dave solo or with Van Halen live!!!

Pretty much what I was thinking.

Dave's not 25 anymore, get over it.

hell, its great that dave is actually singing his songs now, i think he sounds great.
the last 2 classic vh tours he did, he did alot of talking and didnt sing the words to the songs correctly.

the only thing he is lacking in, is his screams. but hell, what 50 year old would be able to do that anyway.
fuck, what 20 year old could do it.?

theres only 1 dave, and all he has to do is show up,and the party is on.

if a reunion ever does happen you would be suprised at how good thier music will sound.

i find that rj dio's voice is the one that suffered the least over the years. ALL the other hard rock singers may still be acceptable+listenable, but havent got the qualities they had in the past (coverdale,gillan,...). I still listen to them but i cant expect to hear what i heard 25 years ago. In Dave's case, i have the same approach like while listening to dylan: it doesnt really matter to hear a perfect singing voice - it's about the attitude and a state of mind. i guess most dlr fans will agree? dylan himself tried to sing at his best til 1988, from then on he doesnt ever bother, as he wrote in his book. he just sounds like he is, and tries not to sing like mccartney or elvis. concerning high registers, i dont like dave's attempts to high screams cos imo he got a bass sounding voice, similar to coverdale's. they shoudnt try to copy a halford or a plant. their strength lies in other areas. like dave wrote: a voice that sounds like 4 flat tyres on a dusty road...that's him, and i wish i will hear it soon live on a VH tour. (on jay leno show, him singing JUMP sounded good, even with a country arrangement!)

There's more than a few screams and notes that Dave just ain't never gonna hit again. That I will agree on. And he was showing signs of struggle, wear and tear as far back as Skyscraper.

Far as live work in the past 5 years, have seen about a dozen boots and seen the real deal live 3 times. Some nights he's fine, others not so great, vocally speaking.

Then again, Dave has always been an entertainer, as opposed to a vocalist. That's why he can still pull off performing, unlike Elliot, whose voice is fucking shot.

The upside of Roth live these days is he actually sings more of the verses than he ever did, and he never fails to entertain.

                            I agree.

I also think that with some artists, film recordings don't capture the moment, they only highlight the flaws.

I think you have to be there to get it...
