Dave has done more off-the-wall shit in one week than most of us might have the opportunity, motivation, and/or cojones to do in a lifetime. Why? Because he can. See the pattern here? Dave is an externalization of our id, our Freudian pleasure principle. He represents the impulses we'd follow if we had the opportunity to do so, consequences be damned. We'd feel pretty fucking silly doing those things in our own mainstream existence; Dave created his own existential reality, and chooses to live within it. Dave defines coolness within his own self-delineated quantum universe, and by voluntarily stepping though his looking glass, we are mandated to re-define our perceptions of what we and others consider admirable and worth aspiring to.
