Van Halen need to get on Letterman or something

Assuming (lol big assumption) it does go ahead, Van Halen need some major publicity to get this tour going. No one apart from us guys and about 75% of the Links could give a fuck at this stage I guess.

If Eddie's playing is back up to scratch, they need to get on Letterman or something with a barnstorming performance. It wouldn't be hard to get the band right into the public eye again if the band is good and playing well. Who wouldnt pay to see a Van Halen even two thirds as good as the original line up? One thing's for sure tho, if the sisters do the whole 'no publicity' schtick like the Van Hagar reunion, this thing could flop.

I think that with Dave in the mix, publicity certainly won't be a problem. I wouldn't mind seeing them on Letterman, definitely not. I honestly think they would have no problem between interviews and such, just look at the Police reunion!

i would love to see some sit downs with the band, especially on letterman and stuff, then they wont have to bring wolfie bc he wont be awake to watch himself so why be on the show.

An example of a reunion done right. Sober band that remembers the words, melodies, and chords of all their songs. Can VH do that? That's the big question. 1996 was their "Police" year I think.

I think VH can definitely do that. I mean, 1996 went all wrong, there's no question about that, but it doesn't mean that it can't be done. I think they just need a little something to spark the enthusiasm they once had. Hagar I think killed the spirit for everyone except Dave, who fortunately was removed from their musical equivalent of vomit.

Forgot that. If done correctly this will be as huge as we've all dreamed of. But EVH will find a way to fuck it up...He always does.

I don't know about as huge as we've all dreamed of, but it would be a big deal nonetheless.

I still think they damage caused by 2004 would put a downer on things.

It'd never be as big as the Police reunion now, but it could still be a major deal....

i think you're under estimating it, i think it could be bigger. when the police and van halen first reunited at the beggining of the year people talked more about vh. i mean i didnt even know that the police were totally broken up

I hope that you're right, I really do, but I'm just not too sure how far or widespread it would appeal. Having said that, when you I think about the business Motley Crue did on their reunion tour (which was marketed brilliantly) it gives me hope. Van Halen should be able to surpass that, for sure.

I can't see them playing Stadiums or anything, but big indoor venues definately.

Worldwide though, The Police reunion is definately a bigger deal. No-one gave a shit about the possibility of a CVH reunion over here (the UK), at least as far as mainstream news goes. I reckon they could play areans over here though, no problems. But it would definately not be as big as in the States.

I guess it's all hypothetical though, and dependent upon the time of year the tour starts, ticket prices, promotion etc etc...

                        Don't know about this one.

The first show of a VH reunion needs to be in a bigger space than the Ed Sullivan theater.

Agreed that The Police did it right....with their opening blitz at The Grammys.

I think Stewart Copeland disagrees with you...

Police drummer rips band's "lame" concert -
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The singer in the Police jumps like a "petulant pansy," the drummer is making a "complete hash," and who knows what the guitarist is doing?

Notes from a bitter critic? Actually, it's a disarmingly frank concert review from the aforementioned drummer of the newly reunited rock trio.

A philosophical Stewart Copeland unleashed his vitriol in a posting on his Web site on Thursday, a day after the band played its second show in Vancouver, the Canadian city where it began its first world tour in more than 20 years on Monday.

"This is unbelievably lame," Copeland wrote of Wednesday's show at the GM Place arena. "We are the mighty Police and we are totally at sea."

Most of the 20,000 fans at the venue might not have noticed a series of small flubs, but Copeland, singer/bassist Sting, and guitarist were painfully aware of them.

Copeland started the show off on the wrong foot, literally. He tripped as he took to the stage, and then banged his gong at the wrong time so that "the big pompous opening to the show is a damp squib."

He did not hear Summers' opening riff to "Message In a Bottle," and Sting in turn misheard Copeland's drum intro -- "so we are half a bar out of sync with each other. Andy is in Idaho."

They quickly recovered, but then Sting got his footwork wrong as he leapt into the air to signal the end to a shambolic version of their rat-race rant "Synchronicity II."

"The mighty Sting momentarily looks like a petulant pansy instead of the god of rock," Copeland reported.
                            Anything left in that bottle?
