Eddie V. has always said Leslie West was a MAJOR influence on his music and lists Leslie first in the influences part of his bio:

Does Wolfgang have an eerie resemblence to Leslie or what. Kid sure doesn’t look like Eddie!

Until Tuesday night the only musician/rock band Eddie had taken the stage with since VH III went into the crapper almost 7 years ago was …… Leslie West. Hell most VH followers don’t even know who Leslie West is, but there is a ton of West’s style and tone in Eddie’s playing…….at least in Eddie’s good ol’ “pre steroid freak” days.

August 15, 2002 - Eddie Van Halen made a brief return to the stage last Saturday night when he joined Leslie West & Mountain for one song during their show at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California.

The following is an extract from a review of the show posted to Leslie West's message board by Richie Baccellieri:

He started with classic Leslie solos to warm up and ripped into Blood of the Sun, this was followed by Leslie talking to the audience about an "amateur" guitarist who he had invited on stage. This amateur was none other than Eddie Van Halen. Yes , Eddie Van Halen.. They proceeded to rip into "Never In My Life" trading licks back and forth. Talk about loud. Leslie, the pro that he is, let Eddie take most of the soloing and all the fills until it was his turn and then he taught the virtuoso a thing about tone and vibrato. I mean, I love Eddie, no doubt he is one of the greats, but less is sometimes more when it comes to expression on the guitar. Still it was a thrill to see the respect given to Leslie by Eddie.

Oddly enough, he does have Eddie's mouth. I know I know. This opens up a whole new can of worms....let the jokes and snide comments begin...but I'm serious, if you look closely, you'll notice the resemblance.

Note: This isn't my kind of “trick” going down this road on Wolfie. But I kept thinking he looked like someone I knew, and when I saw that pic of Val & Wolfgang from 2 weeks ago, I couldn't believe how the lad looked like the Leslie West of old, which I was a huge fan back in the early’ 70.

I didn't know that Eddie was major influenced by Leslie West's musical contributions until EVH showed up and play with Leslie at the Hard Rock two years ago.

Once I knew this, I could really hear Leslie’s vibrato dips & big growl tone in Eddie’s work big time!....it had just been so long, I never thought about it, and I quit following Eddie ten years ago until of recent.

I read that Eddie said he also wanted to meet Leslie, when Eddie was just starting out in the biz, because Leslie got to meet and gig with Jimi Hendrix twice before his death in 1970.

Just wanted to clear this up and hey, more late night trivia to impress your woman LOL, Righttttttttttttttt

I’m placing all the 6/1/04 VH Showcase pics of Wolfgang on this thread. Rest of the Show pics are in the Forum’s DLR/VH Picture Archive Bonanza! section under separate thread.

From watching and listening to the tapes I have of the show, Wolfie (“Little Leslie”) ain’t bad for a 13 YO. I don’t think he is the level Kenny Wayne Sheppard was at 13, for example, but the kid is young, hasn’t had the best father influence around him, so who knows until he gets older, if he will be a footstep super-musician.

PS: Eddie is real unstable in watching the videos. I don't know what the deal was with him breaking down crying when he and Wolfgang left the stage....maybe father pride deal who knows. Further, everyone I'm sure could have done without Eddie's crappy 20+ minute guitar solo and stage antics!
