    This is a strange feeling

I have to admit, this is such a weird feeling....

It appears that the announcement we've all been waiting for is imminent...

Could it be that these fuckers are finally going to do it ??

But yet, I look around the forums here and most of the oldtimers, those of us who've been on these stinking boards virtually EVERY FUCKING DAY since 1999 (and before), are silent as can be....

We've been duped way too many times....

    '96....

    '00....

Even earlier this year, psyche !!!......

Has Van Halen cried wolf to it's most loyal fans one too many times ???

Or is it the logical approach, as I've taken, "let's see those fuckers announce it in a press conference and come talk to me"....

Who the fuck knows, it's just eerily quiet in here....

    I'm with ya VA ...

But I gotta admit, I'm not as "thrilled" as I would have been years ago.

How many summer have gone by that Dave kept redundantly repeating "It's inevitable" ... ?

    Then that godforsaken bluegrass cd.

Sure, I wanna see Dave, and as long as he keeps touring and singing, solo or with Eddie, I'm there.

      Sshh!!

The newbie spammer types might find their way into this thread.

It's looking good, I must say.

Let's see if these "sources" end up more credible than "the guy".

There's hope that by this time next week we're watching YouTube vids of the press conference.

I ain't checkin' out now. I've waited this long.

I think it's maybe partly about being let down before but I think the main reason is that at this point we know what it's going to be like and it's really not that exciting.

Since 1999 Roth has been gradually upping his game vocally with a couple of guitarists that have pretty much delivered close to EVH performances. At the same time we've all seen enough to know that EVH these days will struggle to match that never mind his original playing.

Most of us have seen these Roth 'tribute band' style shows a good few times.

We know that setwise we could be pretty sure of predicting at least 18 out of a 20 song show and they will all be songs that we've heard a zillion times before. There's a good chance that if you get tickets to a tour it may be cancelled before it even reaches you and that with MA gone we have some fat kid probably miming to a tapes for backing vocals.

So all that leaves really is Roth which you've seen recently doing his thing and what might have been the opportunity to cheer the Van Halens and suspend your belief for 100 minutes and pretend you were back there in the day. But even that is ruined because spending that time since 1999 reading and watching the Van Halen's behaviour it's impossible not to think they are pathetic lying assholes.

          So what's left?

          They blew it.

I'll probably go but I am the kind of asshole that has thousands of posts here.

          Cheers!

I agree...bracing is what I am doing. I don't want to get me hope up too high again, then just have 'em crash down again.

Despite some major press coverage, it still seems like I cannot totally trust it...but at the same time, I do trust it.

                Ah, weird feeling...

Ya, Mark are you going to light it up? Remember, the statement said a Roth reunion with Van Halen, which it is. If it was VH without Dave, it is certainly VH without Mike.

I'll tell you why...and I know I speak for a lot of VH fans that have been around from the start.

                    No Mike.

These guys had every opportunity to finally deliver on a real Van Halen reunion and they blow it once again by not including an original member.

Sorry, it aint a "reunion" unless all 4 original members are on stage playing together.

Don't get my wrong, I'll be there watching Eddie, Al, Dave and Wolfie...

But it won't be the Van Halen I know and love.

It WASN'T Van Halen without Dave. Maybe it was to you...and how can you anybody call it a "VH reunion" when 1/4 of the original band is missing? It is what it is - but it ain't a "VH reunion".

It was Van Fagar and no, I never bought or listened to a single thing they did, however, they were still called Van Halen. And the one quarter that you are refering to ws the eakest link, by far!

I'll be honest, I've ridden this rollercoaster too many times to be super excited. '96 I was ecstatic, '99 when Cherone was let go I was fired up, earlier this year I was happy, and now I'm just kind of here. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to go see them, but a lot of the magic is gone. These motherfuckers better BRING IT when they go out on stage.

My biggest hope is that Ed inspires Dave to perform, and Dave inspires Ed to play better. IF that chemistry can be allowed to start happening, THEN we might be on to something. I've watched some of Dave's latest performances on YouTube, and I just didn't get the feeling he was really into it. I've been told by people who have played with Dave that he works off of feel, and I just don't think he's been "feeling it," but more going through the motions. I think Dave knows that playing with Ed will recharge him, and maybe it will do the same for Ed. Ed needs a little competition onstage I think. You know, someone that makes him push harder for the spotlight. Think about it...when Hagar was with him, Ed was the main attraction, but back in the old days you had the Dave and Eddie show.

One last comment...would it be so hard for them to ask Mike to go this one last time?
