    Beyond the hype: Worth it?

I had to step outside the fervor of this thing for moment and come to my senses. Tickets are getting pulled for this tour right and left and the available good seats are going for inflated prices. I remeber when a front row seat cost the same as any other floor seat. Also, this tour will never live up to it's hype. I can already see the myriad bad reviews by people who are expecting Van Halen circa 1983. That's not at all what they'll get, Dave is in his 50's now. He was already doing less of the high-pitched stuff back in '84, and this is 23 years later.
So I guess it comes down to this, if you don't expect VH circa 1983, you'll probably have a great time at this show. If you do, you WILL be sorely disappointed. So, I'm going if I can get a decent seat for under $150 and if not, I'm going to pass.
    ...I'm just skin 'n bones.

Dave said ur voice is best at 50.
I believe that too.Just listen to Stevie wonder,Tony Bennet etc.
Prince's voice gives me the chills..higher than ever and he's 49.

Yeah, but metal is less kind to the vocal chords than R&B.
Besides, isn't a lot of Prince's stuff done in falsetto?

Prince singing "gotta broken heart again" in Las Vegas is the shit.
Some stuff I saw at the rainbow children tour blew my mind..not all falsetto..I dunno what he does.
I heard Dave singing some whicked shit in 2004/2006 on youtube.
But I guess the metal is hard on the voice. But I think Dave can do it.

Ra Power...I guess my question to you is: Have you seen Dave in concert the last couple of Summers??

If you have, you basically know what you are getting with your ticket. It's no surprise to those of us who have followed DLR's solo career to know how awesome a performance HE gives.....and this is said without getting the added bonus of ED, AL & Wolf.

Those of us who have seen Dave in Concert know that he Kicks Ass with his voice, stage presence and comedic Rothisms, basically putting on a helluva damn good time.

I may not purchase VIP, but I know without a doubt that whatever the price of my ticket will be, I'm getting not only an unforgettably great performance, but I'm also getting a moment in my lifetime not to be forgotten. Dave's performance alone will be worth the $150-250.00 I end up paying. The rest is just icing on the cake

          SWEET.

Don't get me wrong, I'll make every effort to be there. I had a hard time paying $400 for the five star in '04 though, and I definitely can't afford $550+ in '07. I suppose if I could, I would. My irritation isn't really with the boys in the band, I suppose it all lies with the elitist monolith that is Ticketbastard.
And no, I've never seen Dave solo. I did see him with Van Halen in '82 and '84.

PS> When I talked about potential bad reviews above I didn't meant to put it in a good light. I think bad reviews by people expecting 30 year-old rockers will be a shame, but they'll happen nonetheless.

PSS> After viewing that Mean Streets vid I have to say, he's still got more than I'd have expected.

Here's hoping you don't get the chance again.

I was at a Dave performance at a very small venue in Santa Cruz, California (The Catalyst) last year. Prior to the show, I met some guys there that were old VH fans, but hadn't seen Dave solo either. Myself and another ROTHARMY member, AlbertR, were telling these guys that they were in for a TREAT....the guys were still very skeptical, as they were under the impression that Dave is too old to carry VH into the millenium and they had not been to a VH concert since '83 or '84 too.

After Dave started in on his setlist, I looked at these guys....they had smiles on their faces and high-fived me....they were impressed and believers!!! It's almost one of those things where I can tell you that you'll have the time of your life....but I'll also say, don't take my word for it....Go Check It Out...

I promise you won't be disappointed.

I look forward to hearing your review after you see the show!!!!!!
