Something's very different about this "reunion"

Have you noticed? The fervor, the exitement, the electricity, the one-hour sell outs...nothing like this happened with the Sammy 04 reunion tour. If you go on youtube and read the comments from the fans, their literally foaming at the mouth. They're rabid for this Roth/Ed reunion. You even have comments from "sort of" music celebs like that Ian dude (who really cares about him) telling his fans "do whatever you have to do" to score tickets to this show. But, the media would never have expected this. CVH (and Roth in particular) had been sidelined, poo pooed in their importance to rock for many years by the media. But, now, millions of fans nation wide (and soon world wide) are scrambling for tickets to sold out shows and speaking with their wallets. And what are they saying? Their saying, hey, it wasn't Aerosmith or Kiss or Metallica, it was Classic Van Halen!. They were the KINGS. They had the greatest songs, the greatest musicianship, the greatest live show. They had the greatest INFLUENCE. At last it seems CVH will finally gets its due. And, boy, it's been a long time coming.

I always though it was all about chemistry. Dave and Ed together bring something special to the table. It is what separates the great bands from “the rest.” I think you can see a similar phenomenon in the combinations of Mick/Keith, John/Paul, Steven/Joe, Robert/Jimmy, Bono/Edge etc. They can make descent music separately, but the magic is not there. Personally, I think Sammy is a pretty good singer, but with him in the band the magic of CVH is absent. I think Dave made some pretty good tracks, but again, the CVH chemistry was never there.

I don’t think it is one of those things that you can put your finger on and say “that’s it, that thing right there is what makes them special”-- when you see it you just know.

i knew this was the way it would turn out.

i knew from vanhalens past greatness that getting a ticket to this would be hard, and they would go fast.

this aint no mystery, vanhalen tickets have always sold out in a few hours, all vanhalen shows have always sold out , this isnt anything new to dave and ed, fuck they probably were burning a doobie betting each other how fast they would go.

I still think there is some real spirit that is Classic Van Halen at work here.

Back in the day they had something to prove - that they were the baddest mofos on the planet.

I don't think anything is different with Dave in the band now. They have something to prove.

If it takes being fueled by fear of being a lauging stock (for Ed) and revenge on the likes of Hagar, it is no matter.

I wonder if the botched reunion would have had this type of effort and potential for some longevity? who knows?

The weird thing is how Valerie's battle with weight gets more MAINSTREAM coverage than this "reunion."

IMO, old ties with Entertainment Tonight should be about her association with Rock And Roll.

                        At least a cross promotion!!!

"Lisa Menudos is with Valerie Bertinelli in an ET Van Halen rehearsal exclusive. The television superstar dishes the dirt about her battle with the bulge at band practice."

                        (pan to quick Bertinelli bleep)

"The power of this music has inspired me not to go to the corn dog stand! There's alot of people exited about this, and I can't wait to get away from the lingering smells of the concession area!!!"
