    Dave's singing

    In the past I have been very vocal about Dave's lack of singing voice over the past few years. I saw him on the Sam & Dave tour and he was NOT good. However... after watching the countless YouTube videos I must say... Dave is BACK!! The whole band sounds great. I can't wait until this show hits Los Angeles. I will hold my thoughts on Wolfie until after the show. This is gonna be an incredible tour.

    Also... I saw The Police tour... I'm a huge fan. BUT... the tour was NOT good.

      When I saw who started this thread, I was not expecting such a complimentary judgement of Dave's vocals!

      Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the Police show?

          All of the songs were performed in a slower tempo. More Sting solo style than Police style. I thought they would rock and they didn't. They looked great, the sound was great BUT in the end the slowness ruined it for me.

              I think Dave sounds fine. Is this 1980 Dave?? no, but it still will rock to see this show live.

                  It's the police that's whats wrong with them !!! Sting's a fucking fag!! What boring shitty music. Dave has never been a good live singer but he will do just fine. The full sound of Ed & Al will help Dave out. Anyone who thinks it's going to be VH of old is fooling themselves !! But after seeing the live clips on you tube it's going to kick ass !! The fucking Police is elevator music !!

                      I think he's quit smoking, and judging by how he looks so in shape, he's probably been doing a lot of cardio and has a lot of wind. Maybe more than he's had since 91.'

                      Plus I think he's been told to forgo some of the high-kicking antics in order to minimize the risk of tour-ending injury...

                              They are absolutely not a live band (anymore). Buy the greatest hits CD and stay home. It saves you $ and gives the same feel

                                  It's all fine with Dave's voice, listening to the video clips, there's power, though certainly a bit less than there used to be, of course.

                                  I just notice a detail, really, a detail, I hesitated to mention it, even, but... Why does he pronounce [e] words that should contain the sound [i:], like in "please" and "squeeze" which become "plezz" and "squezz"?
                                  I remember it was discussed around here a couple years ago, but I can't recall what was said about that.

                                  A fucking detail, all right, but it bugs "meh".

                                      Having said that, they look great and are having a genuine good time, so that counts for something.

                                      But I'm cringing hearing Dave sing. He sounds bad boys and girls, I'm sorry to be honest.

                                                      Dave sounds great. He's singing all the lyrics and sounds better than many of the early 80's boots I've heard, no one can deny that. I even still hear his screams (not as powerful but still throaty and full). The only era I think he sounded better on are the late 70's boots where they were still climbing the ladder to world domination. He was singing all of the lyrics then AND doing all the acrobatics.

                                                      As I said before, this is sort of the same situation as the late 70's. They have a name but were not on top of the world. They realize they have to perform as best as they possibly can to get back there now. Ed's trying like heck for his son, to take him to that place.

                                                      p.s. when I say he sounds better than before, I mean in total. His voice is not as strong, but he's concentrating more on the correct album melodies (no talking) and singing every single lyric. That combination is "better sounding" to me than more powerfully half talking half singing the wrong melody and only some lyrics.
