    backing vox

You know, I wonder how much of these backing vocals are pre-recorded......I think at this point, maybe the technology is there so one can trigger the vocal as well so it is at the right point, anybody have any clue about this?

I remember watching Marilyn Manson, and he makes it obvious about the taped backing vox, but I thought that perhaps there was a trigger used as well, that maybe worked in alignment with the song.

    Thoughts?

Also, I don't care either way, and can't wait for the tour, this isn't a slag at all, just a discussion, because I feel they are almost too good.

Dave said on his radio show that everybody does it nowdays, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some recorded stuff. He seemed to have no problem with it.

I am sure everyone does it, and while watching Marilyn Manson, I could see that it more than merely a pre-recorded tape, but there is some sort of vocal trigger mechansim that is used, so the right part is played for the right song if the trigger is set off by a vocal.

I honestly do not think that is the case here, not at all, judging from the practice clips.

Wolf sounds great all considered, but not pitch perfect in spots and with "on the fly" ins and outs you'll note.

Dave is outwardly giving the kid props, for good reason IMO, that much is obvious. Roth is a showman and all that entails, certainly, but I don't see him faking that kind of genuine praise no matter the gig.

It's not gonna matter Dude. I was even at an Atomic Punks show in AZ shortly after the announcement and

            1. The crowd was 5x larger than normal

            2. The audience fucking sang so loud you couldn't hear the band's backing vocals anyway. The fans were singing the backing vocals and very loudly I might add.

I guarantee you this will happen on tour as well you'll have entire arena's picking up the background vocals.

Find something else to bitch about

There are definitley no pre-recorded backing tracks on the rehearsel footage. If you listen to "Beautiful Girls," when they sing "understand" it's off a bit here and there. As for the rest of the tour, who knows.

Melodic rock report. Seems cool to me, possibly using some every once in a while when they need it. I could see them having some ready for those nights when someones voice is shot (smart move). They're pumped over there too it seems.

MORE VAN HALEN YOU TUBE PREVIEWS:
More Van Halen rehearsal footage. Gotta say...the guys look and sound fantastic. David Lee Roth looks like a 30 year old....good luck to the guys.
There has been some debate and speculation about the backing vocals though - being as Michael Anthony is not involved. No his voice is not being piped in or used in any way. What I was told sometime back after the band ditched the idea of a backing vocalist hidden backstage, was that Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen pre-recorded select backing vocals for use in a few vital spots, but otherwise vocals will all be handled on stage.
Here are some more YouTube links to footage:

                  Do these "Unchained" backing vox sound canned to you guys? I find it hard to tell either way.[PHP]<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/x178PYx5u18"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/x178PYx5u18" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

people are saying its a backing track, but if you listen to the tube links over and over, there is no way it can be. you can tell it is wolfie. if it were backing tracks it would sound alot more polished than it does. wolfie does sound decent.

Well as far Wolf is considered, I figure the boy can really sing and has probably had proper vocal training his entire life, but there are times it does sound like more is going on, so maybe there is an addition of vocals here n there which can be added to thicken via a trigger.

I wonder about Eddie though, hasn't his voice gone down hill? Maybe he's really worked hard, and I gather that much of it is real, but I think there is some pre-recorded support here and there.
