It's not like Sammy is out there begging for interviews to talk about VH. They asked him so he answered. He doesn't need VH "anymore", especially since he sold that big stake of his tequilla for big bucks.

I agree with what Sammy said here.

Sammy sounds like a politician. He's making a play to lure the fans that are angry about MA not being included in the tour. Sam is a marketeer and sees the fans as customers. That's why he no longer rocks. He cares about the bottom line. He makes statements like the one above in an attempt to turn your love for Van Halen into dollars in his pocket. That's why fans of Sam are called sheep.

When Dave does self promotion and marketing he does it tongue in cheek and with a sense of irony. Dave sometimes plays the good old southern politician, but when he takes on that role he is making fun of politics in general. Sam just is a politician. Sammy's statements have the same bullshit positivity of press releases sent out by my company's CEO saying I am getting a pay cut and management is getting a bonus. Dave's public statements are more like the class clown trying to convince everyone in class to drop their books on the floor at exactly 2:05. Dave will piss off your teacher. Sammy is the school's principle.

Maybe MA did something really shitty to get tossed out of the band. Ed and Al might have more class than to make public statements about it. Not to mention, griping about this stuff in public doesn't rock. It makes you look like a little bitch.

MA is now Sammy's little bitch now and a wedge to divide up the fans. Sam plays the nice guy and gets you to think "Hmm, maybe I should buy some of his tequila, go on a Cabo Cruise..."

That being said, by his standard I really don't think this is too bad. Sounds to me like he really couldn't care less....
