    Actually...Rob Halford does smoke.

I recall a picture Classic Rock published where he was clearly smoking, which he requested Ross Halfin not to use because, apparently, his mother doesn't know he smokes...

Granted the heart condition is also a result of smoking, but more indirectly than lungs or vocal cords.

As for Rob Halford, it's amazing how well his voice has held up. Same with Freddie Mercury when he was still around. Maybe being gay and possibly having some female hormones in the system worked in their favor. Or maybe the vocal cords getting an "internal massage"??
Mercury was only like 44 when he died, not much older than you...

And Freddie was younger than Bono, who can sing almost as well overall, and in some ways regarding technique - better - than he did in his 20s...

Dave was smoking last year during his radio show, as an inside source revealed; that Dave was hard to get on with, and that he smells like an ash tray. So he must have relapsed after his paramedic training.

So, is the fact that Michael Anthony is not there to cover for Dave's lazy flubs mean that he's now actually a better singer than he ever was?
dave has something to prove and he wants this to work, he needs to prove he can still sing, theres alot of shit talk about him being washed upo and im sure hes read it.

remember back when everyone was pissed off after this tour fell thru, and everyone was saying this is their last chance to try and get along because nobody will buy tickets with another singer?.

well dave wants to be the last singer for vanhalen, he dowsnt want to go back to doing the ribfest or one entertainer out of five at some county fair, i truly believe someone has laid down the law to him and he got the picture.

im sure there has been many nights where he said to himself, man if i ever get back on top, im gonna go with the flow.

and hes back on top now, and singing like he hasnt sang since the start.
          hes kicking ass.

Just as Nitro said, he has been training for over a decade.

I saw him on the EEAS tour in 1986, but did not get to see him again until 1999 in Wichita, KS.

He was no longer playing any new material. He DID play Yankee Rose, but the entire rest of the set was CVH.

He SANG his way through the entire show.

And then in 2002 when I saw him on Sam & Dave, it was even better.

He was not fucking around.....he was deadly serious about his vocals.

He was definitely much better sounding in that he did not fuck off or fuck anything up.

Sure he is twenty-something years older, but he knows now he has the chance to do it again, and he would kill to prevent anyone from fucking it up. Including himself lol.

Goddam...this is like being in a dream.

I never thought this would happen.

Always wanted it to (since 1996 for sure), but have been disappointed so many times I had about lost all hope.

In the words of the immortal Flounder, of Animal House fame:

                "OH BOY IS THIS GRATE!"

I was more than impressed with Dave at the Greensboro show.(couldn't make the Charlotte one) I've seen Dave with VH and solo more times than I can remember, but I honestly have to say that I was blown away by Dave's vocals. And the way he worked the crowd without the high kicks and arobics is a testament to how great he really is. We've all seen Hagar run around with the Halens and it sucked. Why? Mainly, Dave is the only person who can front a VH concert and make it kick ass. And did I mention the part about how much Hagar sucks? Dave has a richness to his voice that goes with Eddie's guitar that is unreplacable. I just wish I could go to another show. I also dug the vocal interaction with Eddie on YRGM and SGMAD. Dave was just so confident and smooth, and the whole band just sizzled. It sounds great watching clips, but you have to be there to fully understand just how amazing it really was.
