Ed on Daves Birthday

The Pulse of Radio reports: VAN HALEN frontman David Lee Roth turned 53 amidst many good wishes on Wednesday (October 10), as the group performed at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Roth himself was the first to note the occasion, telling the crowd early in the show that "I've had too many birthdays, and this one is the best!"

Before "Ice Cream Man", Roth added that, "This IS my birthday tonight, and I waited a long time to open this present. Bassist Wolfgang Van Halen wished Roth a happy birthday at the end of the song, while his father, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, started his solo spot with an instrumental "Happy Birthday", explaining that, "I'm just welcoming my brother back. It's his birthday tonight. Happy birthday Dave — I love you!"

Several fans brought signs to the show offering their birthday wishes for Roth as well.

Roth and some friends celebrated his birthday on Tuesday (October 9) with a dinner at Cleveland restaurant The Chop House.

VAN HALEN, in the midst of its first tour with Roth since 1984, next performs Friday (October 12) in Toronto.

I think this would be the appropriate place to insert my VH dream I had last night pertaining to Dave's birthday...


So in the dream me and some people went to the Cleveland birthday gig and it was awesome as per usual, but we had to drive back several hours to get home after the show. On the way back, we notice this restaurant/saloon type deal. The thing about this place was that the main reason you go is because it's your birthday... I don't know, but I guess that's their "thing" there... you go on your birthday, and hardly ever else. So I know it's Dave's birthday, so we go in. I didn't think Dave would be there, but after VH, it felt like my birthday, and it was indeed Dave's, so close enough. Well, we find out that there's a little stage there and Dave is coming to celebrate his birthday, and he's so happy, he's putting on a two-hour solo performance there on their stage with the DLR Band. I start freaking out... holy shit... Double Dose of Dave (a DDD for short haha) in one night... I could hardly contain myself...

...But it was not to be. About half an hour before Dave was supposed to go on, the place burned down. It sucked.

I hope it lasts. I just bought tickets for the first Vegas show on Dec. 28th. I would feel better if Eddie said, Happy Birthday to the motherfucker who quit us in 1985. LOL!
