Blind Taste Test...sam Vs. Dave!!

I just did a BLIND TASTE TEST for Van Halen.

A lifelong friend of mine has been getting into Van Halen recently...he's never been a fan before. He told me maybe he likes Dave more because it's just the classic stuff...the original albums. I told him, "Nope. Dave is just the better vocalist...more creative. Better presence...better lyrics." So I decided to test my friend by playing him two "newer" Van Halen songs.

He sat quietly and listened to two songs he had not heard before. I played him IT'S ABOUT TIME and ME WISE MAGIC. My friend is very opinionated and very honest and was not a Van Halen fan until the past few weeks. And after both songs were finished, he said calmly, "I really like the second one. It's awesome."

"Which one?" I asked.

"Oh, the ME WISE MAGIC one," he answered.

"The one with Roth," I confirmed.

"Oh the voice was so much cooler on that one. And the chorus is really catchy!"

"What about the other one?" I asked, my eyes slightly rolling.

"I just don't like it," he said simply. "It's pure crap. It's really generic. The singing is stupid. The music is generic, but the singing ruins it. I don't like that guy."

My friend isn't even much of a hard rock fan...the closest he comes to hard rock is Neil Young (cool too!). But with a BLIND TASTE TEST...he knows who's the man!:D :p

So first he says it is hard to decide who is better. He said maybe. And 10 minutes later he says "The music is generic, but the singing ruins it. I don't like that guy." Damn he changed his mind quick. Also it would have made since if he said the music was good and the singing ruins it. It doesn't make any since to say the music is generic, but the singing ruins it. Second, I was sitting right there. The guy heard both songs, I didn't tell him who was singing which. He immediately said (concerning IT'S ABOUT TIME), "The music is generic, but the guy singing it ruins it", meaning even more. The music was bad enough, but the singer is even worse.
