WGRF-97 Rock Buffalo ~ Van Halen Petition!

Hey guys, I don't know if it's been mentioned on here yet but one of the most dedicated classic rock radio stations anywhere is trying to bring Van Halen to the area!

I know it's the very first radio station that got me interested in music and in particular Van Halen!

The Buffalo area has been getting the shaft lately with Seger passing them over and let’s hopes VH won’t do the same thing. It's true that the radio station and fans of the area have always supported the band so maybe if they get enough signatures, Van Halen will make a stop in Buffalo!

I think VH has been in the NY area like 3 or 4 times already... and they're going back like 2 or 3 more times in 08... get in the fucking car and make a day of it.

I don't have a problem traveling to see Van Halen anywhere, I never had. I've seen this tour 4 times already! I'm also aware they've played the New York State area and are returning. This is about the city of Buffalo and 97Rock in particular, that have "supported" the band like no other radio station has! They shouldn't be deprived the right to host a Van Halen concert! One of the very few Classic Rock stations left in the area that's any good.

I commend them for the effort they're taking to bring the best band in the world to Buffalo.

            LoL!

Road trips are aweseome especially when it involves travelling to see Van Halen! I've done that not only for VH but many bands. However, this is about a petition to bring Van Halen to Buffalo. A city that deserves to host VH because of it's high regard and dedication for the band since day 1!

Sign the petition if you get a chance, it's harmless.

I'm sure there's a good reason for glossing over Buffalo... it's probably that it sucks, but what do I know.
I'm sure every classic station claims to have supported the band from day 1... I really don't see what they could have done any different/better.

Buffalo is actually a great area for concerts. One of the reason for the second Toronto show probably has a lot to do with Western NYers making the trek.

And as for your NYS area thing, NYC is like 400 miles away. It's probably more about a facilities issue, but the Van Spam 04' tour played in Darien Lake (a Six Flags/camping park between Buffalo and Rochester) and had a good sized audience for that shillfest...

But LMFAO at 97Rock being a great classic rock station! They're one of the most boring, corporate shill stations that even made me temporarily hate Led Zeppelin while I was in junior high school, because they played them about six times an hour. And I think I heard one of the main DJs/managers say that he preferred Van Hagar not too long ago when I was up there..

If Green Day and U2 can sellout HSBC Arena in Buffalo while doing the same in Toronto, there's no excuse for a band like VH skipping them...

Hey Nick, how are ya? Long time dude hope all is well!

I agree Buffalo a great place for concerts but certainly not at the Darien Center. Man what a shithole! The same level from the 1st from in front of the stage to the very back reaching the lawn section. No elevation and it sucks for the those paying the same price in section 300 compared to those in the 100 section.

The Van Hagar reunion in 2004 was at the HSBC arena, I won tickets to witness that debacle.

The only thing I can’t handle about 97Rock these days are the commercials that last longer than any other radio station on the dial. I swear they must go on for at least 20 minutes. I do have a soft spot for 97Rock in Buffalo because it’s the very first station that got me into Rock and Roll and Van Halen when I was in great 7. My favourite dj to this day is still Carl Russo from 97Rock!

In the end I think VH does play Buffalo. The radio station has a lot of pull and anytime they have this petition thing, it always comes through.

I don't think it is a case of VH skipping anything,

It is more a case of finding a 'promoter' for the Buffalo area to put up the money that VH are asking per show.

                      .

sounds like some great rock fans up there, but what else can you do but listen to music 9 months a year, because of 15 feet of snow

Well, Darien is a pisshole, but it is sort of a Woodstock vibe with all the camping and the theme park. It's also about location as it draws from Syracuse, Northern PA, ONT, etc...

The Van Hagar reunion in 2004 was at the HSBC arena, I won tickets to witness that debacle.
Shit, I forgot. I think I was thinking Aerosmith when they played Darien with someone else (Motley Crue?)...

97Rock is okay. They've gotten a lot better with the play list and are more eclectic. I guess my complaints were more historical. Plus, they failed and pussed out with adult contemporary briefly in the late 1980s...

I think the best stations Buffalo ever had was 103.3 The Fox (before they turned into garage/flannel rock dicks), 101.7 The Planet, and a station that was the class of everything in the early to mid-1980s, 98.5. I can't recall what the name was, but they were a great eclectic, free form format where you could hear Dire Straits, The Clash, Van Halen, and Iron Maiden --all in the same hour!!

Unfortunately they died when when it became a top-40 crapper station. You can't argue with their ratings though, cunts!
