Sometimes he can still open it up pretty good.

Some one over at the links says he is battling vertigo and that is why he moved to the center, right in front of Al.

IF that is the case no wonder he is having problems.

Fuck, Ed wrote the damn book in 1978.

Who gives a shit if he can't recapture the spontanaeity & chops of his 23 year old self. I doubt any of us could.

Why do we keep judging his ability at 53?

              He's a legend.

I give a shit. And so do many others who've waited all these years and dish out top dollar to watch The King of 6 strings bumble his way through the classics. He can't even reach the bar he himself set.
Jeez ,6 months into the tour and he still struggles. Musically I think he's in over his head.
But bring out The Round Rocker and he'd have no trouble playing that lame shit they wrote like "I Can't stop loving you" or "Love Walks in" or When it's Love" .
Thank fuck I saw Ed all those times back in the CVH days!

As for being a better player than when you're 23? He fuckin should be.
I know I'm 100 times better than when I was 23 ,regardless of the fact that at 23 EVH' level was much higher than mine at that age.....

Why do we keep judging his ability at 53?

                  Yes ,he is a legend.

But legends don't sell tickets with Sammy Hagar anymore!

You cannot maintain that level for eternity, man.

Everyone reaches their peak, wether it be technically or musically, and your fooling yourself if you believe Ed is any different.

A guy in his twenties is reaching his prime in many respects, there is an abundance of drive & energy. Ed was hungry & out to make a statement, at that age.

A guy in his forties & fifties is going to be locked in a different head space. You slow down & become consumed with other things, as opposed to tearing someone's head off.

                    That's life.

I was'nt incinuating he should frying our brains with mindboggling NEW innovations everytime he tours. But he would be fooling himself if actually believes that he is playing up to snuff these days.

True , I agree with what you're saying. But Ed seems to be content resting on his past laurels. Playing guitar is not like being a boxer or a sprint runner who physically can't do it anymore.
Take guys like Lynch ,Malmsteen or Angus these guys still have the fire.
Shit , even Clapton is playing with more fire these days than he has since Cream.

For all of you thankless heartless dikks, I want you to understand the only thing left of you... may perhaps be..if your lucky.... a chisled blurb on a stone in the graveyard.

Bitching about what Ed was and is, is just PuDD.... it is what it is ...that was then ....this is now.

Take all of your old VH cd's albums etc and throw them in the front yard and let them rot .Cause Ed missed a note.

Ageing is a cruel and disturbing sh!tfest... On or OFF ,that is why he will be talked about years from now and you wont... if your lucky... you may have a photo of yourself looked at by your future family with the saying ,"who is this" quoted.

I like every incarnation of VH except Hagar ,but I don't sit around waiting for Dave to miss a note so I can gain a superior feeling about myself by saying," see they can't play like they did back then."

The rawness of -LIVE -is a gift from these hard working blue collar badasses and if you don't get it now, you will miss it later.

I spent twenty years of my life drinking and I wouldn't go to a joint that didn't have a live band.

So keep sitting at home with your digital and you will never get it Raw the best way it can be.

Yeah I was disco danny king of the hustle to chase pussy at the discotek but -MY TIME- is live band Sukk or Rule.

Some of you remind me of that Maxim Reviewer Bitch Boy that didn't even listen to the CD he just took the payola and hit the keys.

If you think all of VH is briging you thier best every night your no fan.

                        EAT IT UP MUTHAS!

Personally, i think Lynch is nowhere the player he was back in the mid to late 80's.

All the current youtube stuff sort of shows a guy who lost his focus & is just noodling aimlessly on the fretboard.
And he seems much sloppier than he was.

                            Yngwie.....(sigh).....
Obviously, i don't enjoy the guy on a musical level, but i will agree his technical ability has not diminished (no pun, intended).

Angus also sounds great to this day.

But Ed has been plagued by alcoholism & personal issues for so long now, and all of that make it nearly impossible for him to maintain consistency.
Guys like Angus & Clapton are clean & clear headed.
