What are the chances of Mikey coming back?

Roth, to some extent, is the past as well.
Ed is drinking because he's not engaged, musically.
He's in a creative rut by revisiting the stuff he wrote decades ago, which in turn, makes him unhappy & more likely to drink & fight.

Ed is an artist & he has a drive to create not rehash.
For better or worse, this is his lifeblood.

I think Ed needs a new direction to keep himself interested.
I'd love to see him do something with Jimmy Barnes, at this point in time.
The vintage stuff can never be duplicated like it was in 78-84.
They can mime it, but the feeling & spontanaeity that defined VH is long gone.

The part of the lineup that's not working to full capacity right now is Eddie...I mean, sure, it'd be neat to see Mike Anthony come back and play with the band, but I honestly can't see where his participation is gonna make much of a difference.

It initially seemed like a bad move to have Wolfgang playing bass for the tour, and I was saying "It's not CVH if MA isn't there," too before the shows started.

But you know what? It's not gonna be CVH again even if Mike is there in a sense; the heyday of the band is long gone. It died in 1984. Showed brief signs of life in 1996...but that's another story...

Wolfgang did fine on the tour, far as I'm concerned. Yes, there probably were background vocals piped in, but so what? Ed ain't playing the synth parts, either. MA with the band gives it 100% legitimacy in terms of every member of the CVH lineup being there, but as others on this thread have pointed out, without Wolfgang it's not likely that Dave and Eddie would have done anything together AT ALL; seems like the kid was a motivating factor (maybe THE motivating factor) in getting Dave back.

Realistically, Dave ain't gonna be pushing for Mike to rejoin, based on the theory that if that were of major improtance to Dave, Roth would have pushed for it already or said no deal.

An EEAS reunion? That'd be interesting, too, but less likely than MA rejoining Van Halen, IMO. I could see Dave and Sheehan doing something together down the line, but for some reason I can't see Vai being all that antsy to retrace those old steps.

I'll tell you flat-out that EVEN WITH Ed's recent troubles and EVEN THOUGH the show I saw was very uneven in terms of Ed's performance, overall I'm amazed the Van Halens (all three of them) and Roth were even able to put this reunion together at all, and turn in some pretty good performances along the way. Whatever happens going forward, at least they finally almost got it right for a brief, shining moment.
